Well, I did have Captain Kronos Vampire Hunter and Frankenstein and the Monster From Hell pre-ordered, but I got an e-mail notice from DVDempire today...

    Dear Customer

Paramount has raised the retail price on this title to 19.99.
We apologize for this but it is a decision made at the studio level and we
are forced to change the price on your order.
The title will ship out as planned and we will advise you if it changes
    back again

    DVD Empire

Changing a price mid-stream? Looks like Paramount is up to their old tricks again. One step forward, two steps back. [IMG] Anybody else receive this notice?

Sorry, but the Paramount DVDs for the Peter Bogdanovich films Daisy Miller and Targets at $9.99 each and Paper Moon at $14.99--with fantastic commentary and short retrospectives and great-looking transfers--are clearly two steps forward.

While the price change is annoying, it's hard to believe there's a complaint that a much-wanted DVD is going to retail for less than $20.

    i agree.
i'm all for a good deal, but these films, even at the much lower price point they had, were only going to appeal to a certain segment of buyers
they actually put some effort into these, securing commentaries- so that to me justifies at least a mid road price.

the thing i was really worried about-if they are priced extremely low and still don't sell much beyond their fan base, how does that impact other lower profile genre titles just being released, let alone having any special features?
would there be much incentive there on the part of Paramount?

i'll still look forward to picking up Kronos, but i wasn't really interested in FATMFH, no matter what the price.

I will still be buying them. They are easily worth the new price.

Now if only Columbia would realize that $25 is WAY too much for a 65 min Boris Karloff flick.....(THE DEVIL COMMANDS).

I am looking forward to both FRANKENSTEIN AND THE MONSTER FROM HELL and CAPTAIN KRONOS, I certainly don't mind paying $20 a pot, especially with the new transfers and commentaries!

I don't think $19.99 is too unreasonable for genre titles with an extra or two. It sure beats the old days with a $29.99 MSRP and is better than Columbia's horrid prices, as Steve mentioned above.

I do think $19.95 would be too much to pay for "Frankenstein and the Monster From Hell" IF...

...it is the cut version (missing some scenes, including the artery scene)! I'm still waiting for reviews on this before I even consider touching this.

I wouldn't bet on the artery scene, as that only seems to have survived in the Japanese version. I will be happy if it's a least the theatrical version.

It has been my experience in the past with DVD Empire that they will charge you the price that the DVD was when you placed it on pre-order. I received a similar email about some Paramount titles I have on pre-order. There has not been any increase in the prices of the titles that I have on pre-order that had the "supposed" price increase to $19.99.

Perhaps the prior price was a mistake. Maybe Mr Blythe could shed some light on this matter.

I got the same emails from dvdempire.
I checked my open orders and the prices are changed as follows:
    Black Sunday - 6.69 to 13.39
    Dragonslayer - 10.04 to 13.39
    Captain Kronos - 6.69 to 13.39
My biggest problem is the emails didn't mention which titles went up in price.
