I know there are many threads with this topic but I wanted to give it some new attention.

There are many movies from Paramount that could benefit from having a DTS track on it's dvdrelease but still Paramount does not support DTS.

I've heard many stories about Paramount doing DTS and then again they don't.

What's the story now Paramount ???

Mr. Blythe can you give us some information regarding this topic ??

Thanks !!

We were told "No DTS titles planned this year" back in 2001. Here we are in 2002, still no DTS. Maybe DTS on We Were Soldiers????

Dan

Well I for one would like to see DTS on the new Sum Of All Fears and Jack Ryan Trioligy dvd's.

I think since Steven Spielberg directed Indiana Jones it would be safe to say that the dvd's will have DTS but you

should remember that George Lucas has produced them and he

never does DTS.

We will have to wait and see what happens.

After talking to the Paramount people last year about this it boils down to one thing. Cost. It's not cost effective to put the dts track on a dvd for the studio. Sure it may be a nice added feature, but it'll cost them quite a chunk of change to license the dts track and then put the dts logos on the dvd box. Does dts sound better? Sure, it usually does, but does that improvement warrent the additional costs to the studio to make a few niche people happy? Probably not. Paramount discs are not known for being the cheapest and adding dts would only increase the cost to consumer. DD 5.1 works just fine and sounds pretty good for Paramount and for most of the people out there.

Personally I'd love to see a Paramount dts disc, but I don't want to be paying $35 for a bare bones release with dts on it.

I'd like to see Paramount use DTS only if the film was originally released with DTS, or was digitally recorded.

Some DTS tracks of analog recorded soundtracks are great (Fantasia, Big Trouble In Little China, for example) but the ones which shine are ones which use the original track.

For example...DTS would probably be great for We Were Soldiers, but would be a waste of disc space for The Ten Commandments.

I'd pay more for DTS! But the almighty $$ rules in the end instead of emotion & desire.;)
