Movies Unlimited lists the Phoebe Cates/Willie Aames cable favorite Paradise as being released on 12/21/04. The list price is pretty hefty (24.99) and no other features are listed. Has anyone heard anything about this?

There is a Japanese disc, tho it censors some of the nudity...Willie's nether regions have been deemed too much for audiences to handle.

Here is the link...scroll down to find the listing:

that's kind of odd.
i thought MGM had the rights to this (and i've been expecting them to release it for a while now- seems a no brainer given a lot of the titles they release month in and month out).

the high price seems out of line for MGM...but not for Columbia Tri Star..which now has control of that catalog, eh?

i hope its coming.
its a guilty pleasure, but a pleasure nonetheless.

i owned the Japanese DVD and while it was anamorphic, it had some obvious macro blocking/ compression artifacting running all thru it.
a very disappointing release (but at least PC wasn't optically blurred)

Amazon has it up too.
its being released by Jef films(?!)

hopefully they won't f*** it up.
(if it isn't OAR it will just being open matte, which in this case, wouldn't really bother me anyway)

Aren't they a public domain type company that always releases films of questionable legality?

As for the censoring of the nudity, I've never seen the movie but all I remember was Willie Aames and Phoebe Cates being traumatized by what the producers did. They brought in body doubles and shot all this nudity they weren't aware of.

The body double scenes are quite obvious. They happen when Willie and Phoebe finally consummate their love. These bits are easy to spot as they are a series of sloppily composed topless shots consisting of close-ups of the torso area with no face visible.

The other nudity (i.e. skinnydipping, showering, frolicking) is all Phoebe and Willie.

And, yes, Phoebe was not at all happy about the extra nudity that was shot and inserted into the film, without her knowledge. As a result, she did not participate in the promotion of the film. At the time, she indicated that she would have considered doing the scenes herself, if she had been asked. It is odd considering all of the fully nude scenes she completed throughout the rest of the film.

Did she know about the scenes in PRIVATE SCHOOL? Those are all fairly obvious body doubles as well.

there is a post on IMDB from back in june that mentions that MGM had sold off the rights to some low budget family orientated outfit (obviously this Jef films).
they voice concern that the release would be censored, but looking up Jef films, shows that in addition to some g/pg fare like Savanah Smiles, they have also released a bunch of David Hamilton films (Bilitis, Tender Cousins, etc).

couldn't find any word on the quality of those releases.

i'm very suprised MGM would sell this off.
hope this isn't another Final Countdown/Pacific Family- like fiasco.

Jef Films IS NOT a legit operation, they are a major bootleg outfit that somehow is getting away with releasing all these titles (all taken from worn out vhs tapes), and they seem to always be selling at amazon (perhaps they own a share of them?)! I know, for I have talked to MGM and they were baffled over Jef films release of SAVAGE STREETS when they told me they are working on a restoration work on it as we speak! And also HUNDRA, which was licensed to a DVD label from the right owners recently! Stay away from them! PARADISE is a studio canal title, so MGM still maintain rights to it.
