    Hi everyone,

‘Have been lurking on and off in this forum since last August and

after all that reading and some demo listening, I will probably decide

on one of the following but need your comments pro and con:

    My room is 19 x 15 with 8 foot ceiling. 2300 cube.

Regular size door opening (no door) on right wall.

Viewing will be across the 15 foot width and 13 feet from

the TV screen and front speakers.

TV is a Sony KP53HS20 RPTV in a 6 foot wide recess with

the screen level with front wall. Rear wall has 12 foot by 7.6 foot

windows in center and when facing the TV the seating area (two

recliners) is offset to the left 12 feet of the rear wall and the TV

more or less centered opposite the seating area.

Cannot mount surround speakers behind seating area unless against ceiling,

so considering Dipoles, one on left wall 6 feet up and 5 feet from left seat

and the other at same height but on top of a bookcase 7 feet from right seat.

Budget is somewhat important and with the Denon 1802 I’m looking at

the following speaker set-ups: (I believe the prices shown are MSRP):

    PSB: Image Series

    #1: 2 / 2B $400 Pr 2 / 1B $300 Pr 1 / 8C $300 Total: $1000.

    #2: 2 / 3LR $500 Pr 1 / 8C $300 2 / 10S $750 Pr (Dipoles) Total: $1550

    3 4 / 3LR $1000 1 / 8C $300 Total: $1300.

    Paradigm:Monitor Series.

    #1 2 / Monitor 5s $520 Pr 2 / Titan $220 Pr 1 / C370 $330

    #2 2 / Monitor 5s $520 Pr 2 / ADP170 $400 Pr (Dipoles) 1 / C370 $330

    Total: $1250

Also considering a Rava or Paradigm PDR10 subwoofer or would this not be

needed with any of these configurations ?

I have heard / demo’d some of the above speakers but haven’t been able to

hear all or do comparable A/Bs.

Would appreciate any comments particularly from PSB and Paradigm owners

re the above, Dollar Value, Sound. and room .

    Thanks, Regards.

I haven't heard all of the setups you've listed but you really can't go too wrong with either. The only thing I would say is don't get the lower end subs from Paradigm. They aren't that good. You would be better off getting a Rava at that price point or a Hsu VTF-2.

In the setups you mentioned, I would go with the paradigms with the ADP's. Those would be better than the psb's as they go a bit lower, and sound fuller at higher volumes.

Also do not go with that low end paradigm sub. Aim for a HSU VTF-2 or an Adire Audio Rava.
