Which are the better speakers to use for surround? My mains are 5SE Mark III's, CC-170 center, SVS 25-31PCI sub running from a Yamaha 595A.

The local dealer is pushing the ADP, but I see that many folks use the Titans or Atoms. Any opinions are appreciated. Thanks

I guess that depends on your preferences. Some people like the diffuse sound of di/bi poles and some like the direct sound of something like the Atoms.

If you use DVD-A/SACD Atoms/Titans would be the way to go.

I have the Studio 40's/20's and ADP 170's for my 6/7 channel, for my couch is right up on the back wall so 20's wouldn't fit, and besides their set to smallx2 anyway so 20's is overkill. I use Studio 20's for my sides because I listen to DVD-A.

Personaly I love the sound they give for movies.

The price difference is not so large between the Titan and Atom, so I'd personally go with Titans...and I did; I have Monitor 5s + CC370 up front with Titans and a CC170 out back.

With placement, you can get diffused sound from monopoles too. Personally, I prefer monopoles.

I agree with John. For the price difference, there's really no reason to take the atoms over the titans. If you have space considerations, both are probably too big, so you'd be looking at something else anyway.

I like the dipoles, but for double the price of the Titans, they simply aren't economically efficient. And I've yet to see why monopoles aren't the way to go; they sound amazing!!

John, a little off-topic, but I'm curious with your decision with the Monitor 5s. I'm currently looking at something in that price range and noticed the Studio/20s for a little bit more than the 5s. What else did you audition when you decided to grab those great speakers? You can PM me if you want.

I went with Atoms for surrounds mostly due to size. I have Titans for mains. When used with a sub they sound identical to me but without a sub the differences are very noticeable. If you can live with the size of the Titans they would make a great surround.
