I've been looking at some 36" Direct View sets (RPTV not really an option due to excessive viewing angles). A local store had:
    Panasonic CT36X31 (flat screen) $1600
Hitachi 36UDX10S (curved screen but 1080i compatible) $1700
    Sony 36FV27 (flat screen) $1800
    Any opinions?

Of the 3 sets you've listed, only the Hitachi is digital and can accept 480p input (progressive scan). The 3xUDX10S series also offers built-in 3:2 pulldown in the movie mode.
Both the Hitachi and the Sony can do the squeeze, I don't know about the Panny.
I've seen posts that indicate all flat screen TVs have geometry issues. Personally, I don't know. It may depend on how picky (anal) you are about your picture. [IMG]
I believe the above statements are accurate. I'm sure someone will jump in to correct any errors.
As I have a 1 week old Hitachi 32UDX10S, I can still return it, and am considering the Panny 32HX41 as a possible replacement if my overscan issues can't be readily fixed.
