I just bought the DMP-BD55 today.
It will be a year or so before I change my TV to a 57" or so flat panel.
The DMP-DB55 is also an interim player until Sony, or some other make makes a decent blu-ray carousel. I have the Sony 400 disk DVPCX985V which gets lots of use.
In addition, I am using a Yamaha RX-V2300 AV receiver.
It is my understanding that I need the DMP-DB55 as I own an older receiver and must use composite cables to the receiver, in order to get 5.1 channel, and the fact that the Toshiba 57HX81 does not have any HDMI inputs. As such, I will also have to use component cables to the TV.
Since the Toshiba 57HX81 is capable of 1080, I am hoping for a better video experience with the blue-ray, then standard DVD.
What, if any degradation in signal will I see having to use the component video cable with the blue-ray? Please correct me if I am wrong, but it is my understanding that HDMI carries the signal digital from the player - directly to the TV. Component, on the other hand takes the digital signal, converts it to analog through the cable and then must be digitized at the television. Is that right?
Thanks for your patience
