Some Panasonic DVD players, like the S55, have a menu option called "monitor select" that allows you to select what type of display you have the player connected to, tube, plasma, rear projector, etc. Can anyone tell me what actual changes the player makes when choosing among the different options?

Don't know exactly, but I've started to use 'Standard' exclusively. On the S55/F85, you'll see no change in the image if you set the TV Type to Standard, then set the Picture Mode to 'User' (which defaults to all zero settings). Any other TV Type and you'll see a change in the image when you switch to User.

I'd rather make my own adjustments than have some unknown pre-set values chosen by the manufacturers who's never seen my TV.
