    Panasonic has unveiled the world's first Blu-ray Disc recorders that can playback Blu-ray Video discs. The Blu-ray DIGA DMR-BW200 and DMR-BR100 can record High Definition imaginery on Blu-ray rewritable disc and dub from the built-in hard-disk drive (HDD) to Blu-ray discs at 4x speed without compormising video or audio quality. The new Blu-ray Disc recorders will be avaible in Japan from November 15.

    The new models support single-layer 25GB and dual-layer 50GB BD discs (BD-RE and BD-R). User can record up ti six hours of High Definition proframme material on a 50GB BD disc. In addition, the DMR-BW200 and DMR-BR100 come with a built-in HDD with a huge cpapacity, 500GB and 200 GB, respectively.

    The DMR-BW200 is equipped with a total of seven TV tuners including two tuners each for terrestrial, BS and 110-degree CS digital broadcast and one analogue TV tuner. That enables users to record two digital TV programs simultaneously on the HDD. Users can also record one program on HDD while recording one on BD-RE disc.

    Huh. This might have gotten me excited about Blu-Ray again. But no US sales, so I guess I'll go back to apathy.

    Japan has been a hugh market for DVD recorders, and the currently announced recorders from Pana, Tosh and many other companies tend to carry a price in the range to 5,000 to 6,000.

    In the US, we prefer our 500.00 HD TIVO box and the US consumer won't pay the price.
