    Hey,

Simple question - is the S97 able to be region-free and convert PAL to NTSC?

The 97 I think can be made region free by buying a special remote that does some reprogramming to it, but nothing has been found that enables you to do it free and by yourself.

The oppo 971h can be made region free by entering in a code and does both pal and ntsc. It may be the better option for you. I've tried both and think the oppo is the better player so far.

Thanks Gregg. I'll definitely check out the Oppo.

That's weird, everywhere I check in google it states the S77 and S97 are both region free DVDs.

You just need to select region 0 and you're all set.

I pulled the trigger on the Oppo the other day. I have yet to put it through it's paces fully as I'm still waiting for my new Sony 50" SXRD to turn up. Because of this I've only been able to use component out with no up-conversion. I've read that it's through DVI that this player excels so I can't wait [IMG]
