Panasonic hdtv for xbox 360 (1 Viewer)

I'm thinking about buying a panasonic tv to play my xbox 360 on. At circuit city its model number CT26WX15 (I can't post links yet)

My question is the tv specifically says 1080i and 480p, but will it scale down to 720p which what the xbox does?
Or would it go down to 480p? If I'm going to spend money I want to get whatever will work the best but it seems like most conventional box sets seem to do 1080i.

any input would be greatly appreciated.

FYI, most Panny sets do not display 720P at all. What I mean is that they will not take a 720P signal and convert it to 1080i or 480P, it just will not play. For this reason I went with a Sony 34" XBR over the Panny as I wanted to play 720P games on my set...

The X360 will scale internally to output 1080i which is what the set can handle. All 360 games are either 720p or 1080i.

thanks for clearing that up, I was reading up on some stuff because I have been wondering how I know which tvs support what formats 720p/1080i and read this just recently

Is 720p vs 1080i worth being concerned about? Yes and no. If you're a consumer looking for a new TV, you can happily ignore the 720p vs 1080i debate because every TV which is described as HDTV or HDTV Ready is required to support both formats.

Is this true? if a set claims it is capable of 1080i will it also always do 720p as well?

and I've waited this long to get a hdtv... maybe I will wait around and get a 1080p?

No and no. But most of the TV's out there will accept either resolution and display it in it's native resolution(usually 720p for fixed pixel displays, 1080i for CRT's). However, it is not required and the best thing to do is check the specifications or manual online before purchasing. Some sets will take 720p and downconvert to 480p, which is not very helpful.

I bought the same TV for my sister's family 2 weeks ago. Nice set for a smallish room.
