I just stumbled across this in the e-flyer I get from Buy.com:

    http://www.buy.com/retail/product.as...53&dcaid=17653

They say it lists for $699.99, and, sure enough, that's exactly what Crutchfield has listed for the exact same model:

    http://www.crutchfield.com/S-SRSQa9h...00&I=133DMRE95

Amazon.com currently lists it at $499.99:

I looked up references to this model in the Personal Video and DVD Recorders forum, and it's discussed in several threads:

    ZDNet review:

Also shows today's Buy.com price as the best of 24 retailers listed:

A couple of problems mentioned in various reviews:

-- The unit seems to have a problem with TDK blanks

-- Doesn't do RW (records to DVD-RAM and DVR-R only)

-- Onscreen TV Guide listings (as opposed to any sort of subscription service) don't always work

All things considered, it looks like $379.99 (with FREE SHIPPING) might be a good deal on this unit, if one's willing to put up with the problems mentioned.

I'm not currently in the market, but I thought perhaps someone else might be...

More product info on this model, directly from the Panasonic site (which shows a list price of $799.99):

There's also more detail on what's needed for the TV Guide Onscreen listing feature to work properly...

Does anyone have one of these who could offer their opinion? I have the DMR-E80 and have very minimal complaints, but I went thru 4 defective DMR-E85s before finally giving up (It kept crashing everytime I tried to burn a DVD).

If this unit is more stable I would like to upgrade but because of the previous problems and hassles I'm a little nervous...

Buy.com also has a $15 off $200 coupon that I was able to use.
