I've been putting off buying a much-needed new TV for months now, and the impending arrival of this model is one of the main reasons. (Other big reasons = bought a new house that is sucking away all my money, and also, I'm getting married in a few weeks.) I hope to be able to afford a 16x9 HDTV, but the cashflow is getting pretty tight...
Can anyone vouch for the reputability of this discountmaven.com site? $1600 seems an awfully good price (assuming the TV is actually a good one).

"The picture in that add is a Toshiba!!"
    LOL! You're right!
Doesn't say much for that dealer.
For anyone considering the Panasonic, I would also suggest considering the new Toshibas that will be coming out. I expect prices should be very competetive.

The Panasonic 47" and the Toshiba 50" will be about $500 apart (in Canada, anyway) which I think is a reasonable difference.
I have a picture of the Panasonic on my site at http://www.nbtelectronics.com (click the picture on the detail page for the biggest version) and a 'picture' of the new Toshiba at http://www.nbtelectronics.com/images/50H81.jpg.

What would you guys say were the strengths of a Toshiba over a Panasonic?
    Thanks!

Bigger screen size (obviously!), direct input selection, individual picture memories for each input type, auto convergence and bigger 'tweaker' community.

So Johnny, the Panasonic 47 only has one set of picture settings for all inputs? Or does it have multiple settings but are non-input specific (i.e. Sony's Vivid, Standard & Movie which can be accessed from all inputs)?
Although the community is bigger for Tosh's, there is one for the Panny's, right? Service menu stuff and tweaks?
Is there a bad red-push on the Panny? And is that not present on the tosh models? And can the attenuator trick for the Mitsus work for the Panny?
    thanks!

Does anybody know when the 47-inch Panasonic will be available in stores? Originally it was May, and then it was June. It's June 10 and I'm unaware of anybody having it in stock.

My dealer put my order in last week and said he hopes to get it 1-2 weeks from order date, which means this coming week or the following. I'll let you know when mine gets in!
