Hey All,

I'm trying to decide between these two units, I want a 100 - 100" image at a sitting distance of approx 10 or 12'.

The approx cost in canadian dollars is $3000 for the 300 and $5000 or for the 500. Is the 500 worth the extra money? Please advise.

Thanks.

That sounds very expensive. The 500 should be around $3200.00. The Sanyo Z2 around the same price. In fact I sold a Z2 for less than $3000.00 not long ago and was quoted somewhere around that $3200.00 mark for the 500 a couple of weeks ago at a store in Markham, Ontario.
The 500 has a higher resolution so there will be less screen door. The Sanyo Z2 has the same resolution as the Panny 500.
Check your prices and see what others have to say about these units.

Thanks Larry, Yeah I just popped into a 2001 audio video store and saw that they had the panasonic 300 and 500 on display.

I will be sure to do some price shopping before I make the purchase. Thanks for your input.

Canadian prices are insane. You can always buy from the US. The PT-L500 can be readily found for $1800.00 USD. Only hassle is, if you have problems, you do have to ship it back to Panasonic US. Panasonic Canada is ripping Canadians off. I asked why their projectors are so expensive in Canada and they gave me the nonsense about taxes and duties. What a lie. Their prices are over inflated. Sanyo Z2's are available for $2600.00-$2700.00 CDN. 2001audiovideo advertises the Panny PJ's for crazy prices. PTAE200=SALE PRICE $2299.99 CDN (hahaha!) they are $995 USD in the states. PTAE 300=$3499.99 CDN !! and the PTAE500=$4499.99 !!!! CDN. INSANE! The lowest I could find a PTAE500 in Canada was $3499.99 plus taxes. Still works out to almost $1000.00 CDN more than it should be.

Do your self a favour and write an email to Panasonic Canada saying their prices are overinflated compared to Panasonic USA and Sanyo Canada's competitive Z2.

If you're going to be watching hi-def, you should definitely get the AE500U. I have a 100" screen & improvement from the L300U is easily noticeable. With DVD, not as much.
