Rob, that's pretty rude. Can't you think of anything intelligent to say? Spacey's coy, knowing performances shatter my suspension of disbelief and take me right out of every movie he's been in. Explain to me how I'm wrong for thinking that.
Or perhaps you'd prefer to send me a childish and insulting private message like Rain did.
DonaldB:
I think you need to relax a bit! Please go back and look at my post. Do you see a little "smiley" face right after the :rolleyes? Does that mean anything to you? It was put there for a reason.
You ask whether I can think of anything intelligent to say, yet you are accusing me of being rude?
As far as sending you a childish and insulting private message, I see no point to this statement at all. Frankly, it sounds like "flame bait" to me. I would also add that I have my doubts that Rain sent you a childish and insulting private message. Based on your reaction to my post, I think it could be inferred that you tend to overreact and read into things a little too much.
The bottom line is that I think Kevin Spacey is an excellent actor. He has given superb perfomances in several movies, including L.A. Confidential, The Usual Suspects, and American Beauty. He certainly never looks "so self-consciously aware" to me, as you described.

Gotta go with Rob here. Spacey may not always be at the top of his game, but I think he's a DAMN good actor.
And I also do not like rudeness and personal potshots. " ;) "

Please, adding a smiley face to an insult in order to cover your ass is just doubly insulting. However, if you really were "just kidding," then I humbly apologize.

I probably shouldn't have mentioned Rain's private message in my response to you -- I was a little miffed about it at the time -- but he most certainly did send it. (That matter is over now and there's no point in rehashing it here.)

Please, adding a smiley face to an insult in order to cover your ass is just doubly insulting. And I especially don't appreciate being called a liar.
Well, I think you just proved my point about you reading too much into things. You are WAY too defensive, for no apparent reason.
Where did I insult you?
Oh, I hope I didnt just insult you again by putting that "confused" symbol there. That was not the intent.
And just because I "doubted" that Rain sent you a childish and insulting message, does not equate to calling you a liar! (again, another example of you reading too much into things). The basis for my "doubt" is the fact that I have read hundreds of Rain's posts, and although he can get passionate about certain subjects and is certainly capable of arguing a certain point, I have never seen him be rude or insulting or childish.
I further based my "doubt" on the fact that you completely overreacted to my original post.
The fact of the matter is that I do not know what was sent to you. Therefore, I could not possibly call you a "liar". But I can still have "doubts" based on what I do know!
I will not be responding any further to this issue.

I have to agree with Julia Roberts , distant, self-rightous, I can't describe how much her performances bother me. I will add also and get flamed for the following
Tom Hanks
Tommy Lee Jones
Al Pacino (nowadays)
Kevin Costner
William Hurt
Vin Diesel
but please let me counter with
Sean Penn
DeNiro
Robert Downey Jr.
Spacey
Steve Buscemi
Thora Birch
Johnny Depp
I feel depth in these current actors, where the ones above seem to sleepwalk.

Brendan Frazier (The guy makes porn actors look like Oscar winners)
Denise Richards (I'm not sure what kind of salary she commands for a picture, but it's too much.)
Ben Afleck (See Brendan Frazier)

Nicholas Cage!! Horrible.. literally eats the scenery. :)
John Cusack. Just not believable as anything but him. He's been playing the same person for nearly 20 years.

I agree about Freddie Prinze Jr. Has he ever made a good movie? I think not!
The House of Yes - a fantastic movie despite his presence.
My list:
Jason Mewes - He's just always acting like an annoying stoner who talks way too much shit ;)
David Arquette - Has he ever filmed a scene where it doesn't look like he's holding back a spate of explosive diarrhea?
Heather Graham - She always looks like she's anticipating her co-stars' next lines so that hers will be in the right order. And what's with that forehead? You could hold the Grey Cup on it and not even worry about tangling your feet in her hair or eyebrows.
Julia Roberts - Wow. She gets paid for that? And she wins an Oscar for flashing cleavage? If that's the case, then Shannon Tweed is the most undervalued actress in Hollywood!
Jenna Jameson - When will she ever learn: "shaft in mouth, tongue on balls" How hard is that to remember?!?!?!

Freddie Prinze Jr without a DOUBT!!!!

and the boob THINKS he can act!!

I don't like Tom Cruise much because he's a 1 note actor... and the he & the world pretends that he's not.

I don't consider 1 note actors "worst actors" though because a lot of times they just don't pick any other roles than the same character over and over again...

in Tom's example, all his characters are pretty much taken from the same page with the exception of I think his Magnolia character which is the one movie I honestly enjoyed his performance.

I like Keanu and don't consider him a 1 note though many do I'm sure...

Arnold is a 1 note but is blatantly but I enjoy him esp when he does off the cuff things to exploit it like Kindergarten Cop or Last Action Hero

Adam Sandler's that too... I would enjoy him better except that he tends to go for a schtick that's a little too low for me to fully enjoy sometimes... and Rob Schneider's following his footsteps unfortunately... I adored his "sidekick" movies, Judge Dredd and Demolition Man... but Deuce Bigalow pushes the limits for me and Animal was just plain lacking...

Brendan Fraser... is probably getting a bad rap for the fact that his mainstream movies consist of the Mummy & Mummy Returns & George of the Jungle which are all similiar enough to give a 1 note aspect... but when you see his other movies like Gods & Monsters and Twilight of the Golds and School Ties... it becomes clearer...

I like Ben Affleck too but not gonna bother defending him... IMO he's just the latest "love to hate" fodder for the grill because of his higher visibility.

I can't understand Chris Tucker and his film choices or how film makers choose to use him. I love his comedy concerts, but can't recall him ever doing that well in a regular movie.
Anyway, my choices would be:
Nicolas Cage - "I used to be high on this guy, but agree that he's made some sad career choices.
Freddie Prinze Jr. - Not exactly a sterling film portfolio.
Ben Affleck - So far. Haven't given up on him yet though.
