They were supposed to send us an approximate shipping date by now. I hope they do soon. I also haven't seen many posts by people who have gotten e-mail notifications lately. My Marantz receiver, that I've been using as a pre/pro, is starting to act strangely. I hope I can hold out as I've already been waiting quite a while, as I know we all have.
I know for a fact that Murphy's Law would apply to me if I went and bought a different pre/pro, I'd bet as soon as I did then I would receive an email confirmation from OUTLAW for the 950 to ship.
I just received a note with my DHL tracking number. I don't remember when I reserved a 950 - I'm thinking that Outlaw opened it up on a Thursday or Friday and I didn't notice that until the following Monday, then I did the deed. Anyway, it's on the way now.
OUTLAW!! O.K., I'm now on the verge of desperation. Just received 5 new IRD monoblocks and have no way of demoing them, aaaarrrgghh!!! Pleeeeaaaasssse, send out the waiting list confirmation. Signed, do you want some cheese with that whine.
We are totally in the dark on this one here. Has anyone actually received a 950 in the last couple of days from Outlaw? Maybe there is some better information over at the Outlaw site.
(I've been busy and my surfing has been limited to places where I have responsibilities.)
They sent an email on 6/20/02 saying shipping of units had been halted. I assumed they sent this to everyone on the waiting list. Jeff Kohn posted the same email on June 21st here.
I've been planning on getting a 950, but I'm about to plunk down some dough on a Rotel instead. I know it will cost me a lot more to do this, but in the end I'll have a more flexible unit. My A3090 seems to be showing a little age, which gives me an excuse to upgrade that to the 1066. I'm going to try out using the 2nd zone on the 1066 to power the room downstairs.
I know I would be happy with a 950, but I feel I'll get a better long-term investment in the 1066 because it is upgradeable.
Honestly, if Outlaw hadn't had all the problems with production, I would probably have a 950 in my listening room right now...and I would be very happy with it.
For the Home Theater room where my A3090 is sitting, I'll replace the amplification with a 770 I think. That with a 1066 should give me the upgrade path I desire... speakers will be next!
Ultimately, I want to move the HT to the basement where a 7.1 setup will be more appreciated. I don't want to drill holes in the walls to hang speakers in the room I have the HT in for the timebeing.
So, all told, I guess my business school professors were correct. Companies need to be careful about getting people all excited about a product when they can't deliver it in a timely manner. Many retailers have Apple's iMacs sitting on the shelves because they built up demand and then killed it by not supplying soon enough. I hope this isn't what is happening to Outlaw right now. I think they are a great company and providing a great product that will help the whole industry improve itself.
I called and spoke with Scott a week ago. I asked him what kind of wait I had (got on the list the end of March). He would not give me a definite answer, but said he expected shipments to resume in 4 to 5 weeks (one week ago). He said they were going to make sure that all units satisfied their expectations before they resumed shipping (my paraphrase, not an actual quote). He also said that he was sure that when shipping resumed, the entire waiting list would be filled VERY quickly. Hope this helps.
