Of course, if you really want to go down the outboard-DAC road, the way to go is to build a system with MSB's MDP-3 decoder, which accepts DD & dts bitstreams and outputs 3 x 2-channel PCM digital outputs (L/R, SL/SR, C/Sub), which you could then run through three different outboard DACs, through their 8-ch volume control and onto amps.
Overkill perhaps, but a neat idea nonetheless. Anyone out there ever used one of these? I've had my eye on one for some time...
