and I don't know how.
was working on the car this weekend for 10-12 hours and now my left hand is kind of numb, and I have zero strength in it, and reduced dextarity.
Can't figure where or how I could have injured it, I'm right handed and use the left to mostly lean against hard parts on the engine while working.
What do you guys think? hit the doc ASAP or give it a few days and see if it improves?

i wouldnt wait a few days if it is still numb in the morning, i'd call the doctor without much delay. if it gets significantly better but not completely, i would think it is a little safer to not call the doctor right away.

probably a good idea. I was hoping it would be better by today, I should have been clearer, I was working on saturday.
as it is I can barely button my pants because I don't have the strength to stretch them with my left hand

p.s. I have kaiser so I'll probably go in with a bum hand and come out dead ;)

Working on your car? RIIIIIIIGGGHHHHHTT :D
Seriously, I remember once I was using a nail gun for work alot. Continuously for hours at a time. Eventually, my right arm started going numb and my hand would cramp up all the time from gripping the gun. Never went to the doctor and it eventually went away, but I probably should have gone. BTW, I have Kaiser as well and understand your 'dead' comment, although that would mean that they would actually have to try to do something to correct your problem. :D

Is it the whole hand or just some of the fingers? I tore a tendon in my ring finger about three months ago. Woke up the next morning and I couldn't feel or move the middle, ring or pinky. Completely numb. I could start moving it a bit within a couple days, but with no speed or dexterity. It took about a month before the 'mummy' hand went away. About 2 months before I could fully make a fist again and even now it's probably only at about 70%. FWIW, I played 7 rugby games with it though, which is probably why it's taking so long to heal.

This reminds me of when I first went on a climbing wall. Lots of fun, but I wasn't aware how hard I was gripping. When I had dinner with friends later I couldn't even use my fork to take a chunk out of my food! Hope it's nothing serious but just a temporary straining of the tendons.

I'm no physician but it sounds like nerve damage to me.

I'd get to a real doctor if I were you.

it's a little better tonight, mobility is coming back but still not a lot of strength and still numb (whole hand)
I'll try to go in later this week, it's hard on my work schedule :frowning:

Many HMO's have a number you can call for no charge to talk to a nurse. If you have this it might be worthwhile to get an opinion.

Ahh, the return of the "I'm injured but I'm going to start a thread on the internet instead of go to the doctor" thread.
Just go to a doctor already.

Could be anything. Nerve damage, nerve iritation or muscle/ligament strain. As always, the best advice is for you to see a doctor asap. Care for your hand now yourself. Don't use it if it hurts and don't bang it into anything! Perhaps very gentle massaging wouldn't hurt.
