    From IMDB:

Funnyman Steve Martin has put in an early offer to host the Oscars in 2003 after being thrilled by Whoopi Goldberg's presenting of the recent 74th Academy Awards. The comic hosted last year's Oscars and admits that, although he turned down the chance to host again last month, he would like to take the stage at the Academy Awards again. He says, "I thought it was a good show. I really enjoyed it. I would like to do it again. The problem with doing it is when you accept in December to do it in March that's all you can think about, so you don't have a life. It's very nerve-wracking. It's something I've done a lot - performing in front of people - but, on the other hand, it's something you've never done. It's strange to look out at an audience of celebrities and think, 'Oh, it's my friends.'"

    -------

Alright! I quite liked him last year.

Billy Crystal peaked years ago. Give Martin the job! He moved things along at a good clip.

One person suggested Woody Allen in another post. That could work!

I still say Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller [IMG]
But I'd be happy with anyone but Whoppie. Go Steve!

I too would like to see Steve host the Oscars. If only he would reprise his "Dentist" skit from Little Shop of Horrors. [IMG]

I think any of those three would do a good job.

I'd like to see Martin do it too. Stiller and Wilson would probably work very well, but this show is pretty traditional and set in its ways. Ultimately I think they're too edgy (and young) to host it at this time.

I'm hoping Steve Martin gets the gig for next year's ceremony. On another note I must be in the crowd of about 3 people that thought Whoopi actually wasn't as bad as people made her out to be, and it doesn't bother me when she hosts the Oscar's but Billy Crystal, now that guy annoys the hell out of me when he hosts.

I'd opt for Crystal. He's still the best.

Martin has got my vote! Billy Crystal is good, too. As long as it is anybody besides Whoopi, I'll be happy.

With TV ratings hitting rock bottom the last two years with both Martin and Goldberg, you got to beg and plead for Crystal to come back.

I always thought Jim Carrey would be a great host, but with the snubs, he probably wouldn't do it. Maybe he's too manic anyway.

I honestly think that Letterman should get another shot.

The year Letterman hosted was the first time I watched the show beginning to end. I thought he was a fine host. I was stunned the next day when people were ripping him. But then again, I thought Whoopie was o.k. this year, too.

You guys will kill me for this, but I think Jay Leno would be a good host.

He's funny (IMO, of course), he's good at making lame jokes sound funny, he's good at sucking up to celebrities, and he's good at making jokes about celebrities.

I think he'd be good, at least.

If not him, let Steve Martin do it again.

I've like Whoopi before, but she was terrible this year.
