How much better (if any) do you think Redux's video quality is than the original DVD?
I sure wish people would put question marks on threads where they are asking a question. I'm curious about this topic too and was hoping this thread could answer the question
Your wish is my command...
To answer my own question, the Redux has significantly better video in my opinion. I haven't watched the entire film yet, but I spent 10 minutes skipping to various scenes. The artifacts/grain have been cleared up from the original; the colors are better balanced and not as (overly) saturated as the original; and the picture is a tad brighter. All of this very noticable on my display.
i was hoping there wouldn't be too much difference, since I find "redux" to be a real misstep that really damages the impact, pace, and message of the film. if the image is really a lot better i'm going to have to pick it up (and program the chapters accordingly!)
I agree with Sean, Redux really damages the pace of this film. I prefer the original.
I think that redux's video quality is better than the quality of the original. One thing I noticed was that the video quality of the theatrical trailer was poor. Is it just me or is it like that on all of them?
The trailer was rough looking and a difference aspect ratio (looked like 2:35).
Well, last night I watched the original Apoc. Now and tonight I watched Redux. I think all of the scenes worked well except the French plantation scene. This scene really hurt the flow, pace, and feel of how the movie was going.
Next time I watch Redux I'll just skip this entire scene.
As I said before, this new transfer is really nice and a good improvement over the original. Watching it from beginning to end I can really appreciate it.
I was going to say the same thing as Sean. I never did like the video on the original release. My former laserdisc looked much better.
Are all the original scenes in the Redux version? If so, I can't wait until someone posts the chapters for programming it! (Yeah, I'm too lazy to figure it out myself.)
I don't believe that you can program the DVD so that you can get the original version. There are some chapters that include scenes from both the original and Redux.
Well, the chapter listing on the insert does identify which chapters are new to the Redux edition, but (and I haven't tried it yet), I suspect it is true that within these chapters are scenes that belong in the original cut, so programming them out won't give you the full 153 minutes.
