I have an old marantz SR-18 amplifier. I currently have Orb speakers 5.1 with MOD2. I am not using the super 8" subwoofer instead I am using an old Velodyne 10" sub.

Anyway, Will acoustimass sound better than my current setup?

I have a few home theater installer came by my apartment and they said the bose sound more " precise "

is it possible that I set my amp incorrectly?

Orb all the way, Bose is overpriced crap. Don't listen to anyone selling Bose.

Well, there's two stereo shop installers came to install my TV mount and my speakers. They are not affiliated with my ORB speakers. I just asked them randomly and they said from their own previous experience. The bose sounded more " accurate. " than my orb speakers.

OK, let me spell it out. Bose makes the least "accurate" speakers ever designed. It is actually their intention to make them inaccurate to get an artificially bloated, heavy sound with virtually no dynamics or fidelity.

You will not get any Love here or at any other forum when it comes to the "B" word.

I have been in full blown arguments with people on this subject. No one can believe that there are "BETTER" speakers than Bose.

For the sanity of yourself and the folks on this forum and for the love of all things good and Holy please dont bring up Bose ever ever again.

Wow. Why even bother? I can understand having a heated argument about politics but, speakers? Who exactly is forcing you to listen to speakers you don't like?

Charles, you came here looking for objective advice, so I'll pass along some great advice that was given to me about 10 years ago.

When I used to have a subscription to Rolling Stone, a guy by the name of Mark Fleischmann used to to do yearly reviews on audio equipment (he might still, I don't know) He'd recommend things in all price ranges from super-cheap, to ultra-expensive.

Around that time, I was just about to ditch my old plastic Sharp shelf system that got me thru high school and college, and was about to start building a "good" stereo system. I had the turntable, cartridge, and amplifier all picked out (it would be a few more years before I got a new CD player and tape deck) but I was still having trouble picking out speakers.

I wrote a letter to Mr. Fleishmann, giving him a list of speakers I was considering, one of which were the Advent Laureates which he had once recommended and they were in my price range, there was also a pair of Bose speakers on the list (the 501s I think) and a few others (this was before most people had surround-sound). I asked him which of the speakers on the list he would choose, and he told me basically that everyone hears differently, and you shouldn't pick speakers based on other people's likes or dislikes. ALWAYS listen to them yourself, and if you like them- buy them. In other words, he wouldn't tell me which speakers he thought I should buy. ;)

It's harder nowadays to find stores that have listening rooms for speakers, but they're still out there, and you may need to bring the speakers home to see what they'll really sound like as there are a lot of things that influence a speaker's sound such as room shape, ceiling height, and floor and wall coverings, as well as speaker placement.

Bottom line- if you're not happy with your current speaker set-up and are ready for a change, listen to a bunch of speakers in your price range and buy the ones that sound good to you. And at all costs, avoid recommendations from people who have an agenda.

I have been in the hometheater design and install Business for almost 15 years. I have traveled all over the USA also to England and Scotland for trainings on some of the finest speakers made. B&W,REVEL, MERIDIAN, LINN, VELODYNE, I have spent many hours listening in anechoic chambers and Blind listening against other speakers. When People find out what I do for work they always have to ask.... What about Bose? I tell them exactly what I think. Thats when the arguments start. No one is forcing me to listen to speakers. I just tell them the truth and the truth hurts.
