Seems like a heck of a deal to me, though it's still a lot of money. Plus it's cheaper than a plasma/LCD TV with equivalent size pic.

Lots of good reviews from what I've seen around HTF.

Usually $999, the package is $200 off thru 6/18.

Am I talking myself into pulling the trigger? :D

(Admin note - corrected spelling of brand name in thread title, it's Optomo, not Optima.)

At worse, if you don't like it, Costco will take it back.

I take it that the screen isn't hear-thru (so you can put a center channel speaker behind it and still hear it well)?

If it really is Optomo, Patrick...you better look again at the thread title again...or, is it really Optoma? Optomoa? Optomaprotozoa? :D

Oh, man...I really, really, want to.

I was offered a promotion today at work, perhaps I should celebrate? :D

ok, OK...stop twisting my arm! I'll buy, I'll buy!

It seems like a fantastic deal, and since it's Costco it'll be an easy return if I don't like it or if I have buyer's remorse later. :)

Besides, I have invested in a library of DVD's and they deserve something larger than a 27" Panasonic to display them. This will provide a larger screen at a price cheaper than a new plasma or LCD TV.

End rationalization. :D

Malcom, if you don't mind my asking, but did you end up buying this and if so, what are your impressions of it? Costco is running some internet specials on some of their projectors again.

Thanks,

Steve

Yep, I bought it but it's still in the box, believe it or not.

It's been far too hot since I got it to do the necessary furniture moving and set-up. I'm hopeful maybe next weekend will be the big premiere.

Yes, it *downconverts* the 720p/1080i signal to 480p and then outputs that. You're losing quality and resolution.

Decent deal if you are just going to watch SD-DVD though.

One of my favorite hangouts and the best popcorn around! :D

I have no desire to jump to HD anytime soon, so I'm confident this projector will be just fine. ;)
