I'm thinking about buying the Panasonic XP30 DVD player which only has an optical output. The problem with my setup is that the back of the receiver is about an inch away from the back wall of the cabinet. Do you think I'll be able to bend the optical cable within an inch of space without affecting the audio quality?

    Thanks.

The bend radius for plastic tolink is smaller than for glass but it can be manufacturer dependent. A general rule of thumb is that it's about 1 inch. That doesn't leave you much margin for error. I'd see about trying to move it out a little further to avoid stress fractures.
