I wonder if this "experimental feature" is the reason why the Auto setting didn't default to it while playing BILLY LYNN.

BTW Robert, have you set up Dolby Atmos yet in your system? I did it relatively cheaply with 2 up firing Elac speakers on top of my L and R front speakers, which I ordered from Amazon:

ELAC A4 Debut Series 4" Concentric Dolby Atmos Speakers by Andrew Jones (Pair)

    Raul,

I have everything set to Auto and no matter which UHD disc I play I get the same settings except the frame rate. With Billy Lynn it's 59.94 while the other discs it's 23.976.

Almost, but decided last week to wait on this year's receiver models to come out. I anticipate being Dolby Atmos capable by the end of this year.

I have a 7.1 system. If I added these speakers to get an Atmos system going, would they be compatible with adding another pair of speakers to hang from the ceiling? Not now and not these speakers of course, since they up firing only. I just got the X4300H from Denon, so I can do Atmos.

IIRC, there was a fair amount of grumbling when this thread began that the 203 didn't have any "smart" apps built in to allow for streaming via the unit. But I also seem to recall some members speculating that they figured Oppo would be adding such a thing in a firmware upgrade down the road.

Is there any update on such a thing? Has enough time passed without it happening that we should probably forget about the idea of it ever coming to pass?

I'm only just a little curious because I don't really do much streaming, Any streaming I do is through apps on my TV (which involve me running the TV audio back to my receiver via an optical cable). I just always figured it might be nice in terms of audio to run everything via usual means.

Seems like I watched on those videos on the Oppo site and they made of point of no apps to speed up everything else.

I saw some place that there will be no apps ever. They want it to be the fastest player in the market.

The official line from Oppo is nope, there will be no apps in any of their players.

I actually think it's a good thing Mike. Streaming apps are provided by the streaming services to the manufacturers of TVs, Blu-ray players, set-top boxes, etc. In the end it's the popular devices like the Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, NVidia Shield, etc. that get app updates with the newest features, functionality, and bug fixes first. Some peripheral players, like Oppo, might not see these updates to their apps for months and months, if ever. I believe that the BDP-103/105 apps suffered from this very issue.

In the end I think it's best to use a dedicated streaming box for streaming. Other opinions may differ, but that's my take on things.

Thanks, Doug. I don't know why I have pushed back against getting a Roku (or Chromecast or whatever). i guess its likely a simple case of not being familiar with them.

My Panasonic plasma--the only device I have which allows for streaming--has never gotten any updates for its streaming services. But, fortunately, it came with the MLB app which has allowed me to stream major league baseball now for the past few years.

Maybe I'll drop a hint for Father's Day!!!

While my Sony UHD player, Panasonic BD player and Vizio display all have streaming apps, I never use them, instead opting to use a dedicated Roku device. As others have stated, a dedicated device will get app updates much more often and is more likely to have all the apps you want (my Vizio display doesn't have Amazon Video, for example).

New beta firmware was released end of last week. Oppo's release notes don't mention anything about Dolby Vision but it has been reported that DV demos through USB are working.

While calibrating my new HT equipment I noticed a new firmware update for the 203. I'm assuming it's the Dolby Vision update, but haven't checked for confirmation.

I had been assuming most 4K discs had dolby vision built in, but according to the bits, There are only 2, which just hit store shelves. Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2. That's disappointing.
