Thanks for that reply Jack, I really appreciate that as I really do want to talk about all the things that I have seen in these forums but haven't (until now) found the right place to do so. I have been a frequent visitor to digitalbits but have never looked at the forums.

I actually felt I should not mention how many discs I have but when I think about it I really want to talk about them - its the only thing I enjoy outside of work and I have spent approx £70,000 on the discs alone over the past 2/3 years.

This really is a forum with good people from what I have looked at so far.

Best Regards

Trevor

I hate paying retail for Criterion’s, not only are the extra expensive but living in Canada, they are twice the price of the retail price,

I.E: DO THE RIGHT THING = 59.00 w/o 14.5% tax, (Quite a dent in a 16 year olds wallet)

Now I was wondering where do all these people who have their BIG collections get their movies from!? There are people with a library of film and disks that most likely equate to the value of a brand-new Porsche.

My collection has grown considerably since I last posted in it.

Estevan: You just gotta look around for sales, go to stores that sell used ones, go to flea markets and pawn shops, etc, and you can get your collection to grow considerably.

First of all, good choices guys. I have amassed a collection of about 200 DVDs in the past 3 years. I would have more (much to my wife's chagrin) but I don't like to duplicate movies I have on VHS (over 350). I find myself wanting to more and more since I am itching to see movies in the digital format that I now only have on VHS; especially since movies with HI-FI Dolby Surround pale in comparison to DTS and Dolby 5.1. One thing is that I have no comedies. I dislike comedies and mostly stick with Drama, Sci-Fi, Action and especially Horror. I am anxiously awaiting the release of a collection of George Romero's zombie movies, in a boxed set, if it ever happens. I have the 30th anniversary edition of "Night of the Living Dead" but I hesitate paying 50+ bucks for "Dawn of the Dead" and "Day of the Dead." I read in FangoriaMagazine that rumor has it that Romero is currently working on a film called "Twilight of the Dead." I hope that happens, it would be a must have for me.

Fascinating thread I agree that collecting DVDs is very addictive. I keep trying to stop, for example when I started about five years ago I never thought based on what I got on VHS I would ever purchase 100 but now I've got almost 300 ! Oh I too am awaiting for those 3 disk releases of Dawn of The Dead and Day of the Dead. I think that spending 50+ dollars of a bare bones OOP DVD of "Dawn" that most likely will come back in syndication is a waste of money. (Anchor bay always re-re-re-releases, Evil Dead and Armies of Darkness comes to mind)

As for my collection, its getting a large boost, just got payed a hefty sum of cash and I think im going to get, Traffic:Criterion, Hearts and Minds: Criterion, Robocop: Criterion, Re-Animator:ME and perhaps Night Of The Living Dead: ME (By Elite, which I heard was going OOP SOON!).

Not to mention the new releases coming my way, Alien Quad., Indiana Jones, Goodfellas (eventually)and Scorsese collection (eventually).

StephenA: Living in the culturally and retail dead zone that I reside in, Its hard to come by pawn shops ect... Even in Vancouver. All there is, is a bunch of GAP'S.

I took the plunge with DVD profiler too. My listing is not complete yet. I still need to enter more than 200+ DVDs. I sure could use a bar code scanner.

The reason my collection is so small is because i have no job, (My only source of money is my allowence) and because my parents insisted on renting for a couple years. MY collection has been increasing more rapidly as of late because my allowence has increased and im buying a dvd (or two) a week, rather than one dvd every two months.

Dan, that's a pretty impressive list for a collection built on allowance money. And any kid (or adult, for that matter)with THE PRISONER set in their collection is doing just fine in my book.

Derek_McL: That's an amazing collection you got there...most impressive. I'm also a big classic movie buff, but I'm lagging WAY behind you on that score.

Well, here's mine. Since I've been overseas for a year, I've scaled my DVD purchasing WAAAAY back, alas. So now I'm quite behind in a number of great releases. So please note, most of these were purchased prior to July 2002.
