I am looking at purchasing a 7.1.2 ELAC Uni-Fi slim series with Dolby Atmos. I am wanting opinions on a good AVR for source control, but understand a proper amp is needed to push the speakers. Any advice on a make/model for both the AVR and amp while being cost effective? I would rather spend more on the amp and push most of the speakers from it while leaving the AVR for good source control. Thoughts?

You should definitely use an external amp that's stable and can drive full power to all channels into 4 Ohm speakers. Your cheapest good option would be (2) Outlaw 5000s, which would leave you with an unused channel. You can use a receiver as a preamp, but I'd look for closeouts of a Marantz AV7704 or refurb of the AV7704 or 7705, if you want to keep the total cost in high-end receiver land.

With Uni-Fi speakers, I wouldn't drive any of them with a receiver.
