I'm running a Onyko TX-DS787 with Boston VR40's for mains, surrounds, VR920 for center and 15" Cerwin-vega sub. The problem is it goes into thermal protect just before "REF" level. I had the speaker set for "Large". Now have them set for "small" but still goes into thermal protect. If I shut down any one (center, mains or surround) of my channels, the receiver is fine at "REF" level. Known that, if I go out and buy the Onyko amp M282 to run my mains, that should take care of things right?

I was considering the Onyko 901 as a last resort, I'm very happy with my DS787, I'm not after any more power then "REF" level, mostly play movies then listen to music, but it would be nice if I can set the main speakers to "Large" with the M282 amp.

A separate amp will reduce the load on your reciever.Make sure both have plenty of ventilation.
