I was an early adopter of AC-3 technology way back in '95 and purchased a Pioneer VSX DS3 AV receiver. It cannot play the latest software in 5.1 so I am researching the purchase of a new AV receiver. The above two models are really expensive, but I am concerned at ensuring that the new receiver is 'future proof' for a couple of years. Any suggestions, comments would be welcome.

Ifin you really going to spend that kind of money
buy a seperate amp then it's 'bout features...

generally speaking most feature sets are available
even in the lowest form of a HT offering (sub 500).

No amp/ht recv'r is going to really offer the power
that a stand alone amp offers and thats the big $$$
    the 1k is providing....

Then again the 1k's CARD BASED chassis is most
exciting and hopefully in a few years a standard
offering (and standardized!) But close to 5k
retail for half that you'd double the amplitude
and have some left to buy a movie!

The one thing that I really am amazed with about that Onkyo NR1000 is the future proofing and customization one can do via the cards.

If you call up a few days worth of threads, you should see a main thread for that Onkyo unit, including pictures, just for fun reading.
