I'm finding that the Audyssey setup works fine and detects all 8 speakers, however once system speaker setup is complete that's when things get weird.

(for example)

After I run setup on screen layout looks like...
L 2dB
C 1dB
R 2dB
SR 4dB
SBR 2dB
SBL 4dB
SL 6dB
Sub 0dB

After about 2 weeks...
L 2dB
C 1dB
R 2dB
SR 4dB
SBR none
SBL none
SL 6dB
Sub 0dB

Puzzling, whats making the surround backs disappear??? Can anyone help me solve this issue.

They just changed... I've just now plugged mic and everything is back set to how it should be. I'll continue to check and make sure it stays.

It's weird though? I don't know why but it seems the receiver shuts those channels down at some point? With whatever I watch, play, it selects the format in which we listen to, Dolby DTS, True HD, or if watching a Blu-ray in the PS3 a PCM 7.1 setting. I noticed it's just the 2 rear surrounds that has this problem and I'm wondering if it's something to do with the receivers process of selecting speakers/formats?

I don't know, my next step if it happens again is to call Onkyo. It gets old setting up receiver with mic. I've had to do I would say 5 times in the last year so it's not like I'm having to do a lot. It just doesn't seem right.

It should not do that. The rears may not always play depending on format (or selected DSP), but they should still be listed. May be worth a call to Onkyo.

Write down the crossovers and you can manually reset them. No need to re-run the auto setup.

Well it's happened again I'm calling Onkyo now and re-running setup. Here's how it went down.

After noticing surround backs not working on Saturday I looked at on screen menu and the receiver had dropped the surround rear back speakers. I ran setup with mic and speakers were set up. Then I watched some football on Sunday, played some Call of Duty on PS3 in 7.1 format was fine, then watched The new Rambo on Blu-ray in 7.1 and was fine. On Monday wife and I played some Guitar Hero via PS3 after we were done I checked the setup of the speakers and below is what was listed.

Subwoofer - Yes
Front - Full Band
Center - 150 Hz
Surround - Full Band
Surround Back - None
Surround Back Ch ---
LPF of LFE - 100 Hz
Double Bass - On

I then ran setup with mic all eight speakers setup fine,... for now that is.

I finally got through to Onkyo Support and the guy recommended me to reset the receiver by holding down the VCR button then push in the power button. Now I can't get anything to come on? The receiver powers up but no on screen menu? For the record Onkyo Customer Support Stinks!!! I was really expecting more from this company in regards to support.

Can anyone help??? Thanks

Have you or anyone else in the house been experimenting with Zone2 or Bi-Amp for some reason? If you configure "Powered Zone2 = Act" or "Speakers Type = Bi-Amp", you're telling the 605 to reconfigure the SB amps for either zone 2 or BiAmp use and they will get turned off in speaker configuration screen since those amps can't be used to feed SBR/SBL and BiAmp/Zone2 at the same time.

It takes a deliberate effort with the menu to change the Bi-Amp/Zone2 settings, but there's no warning or mutually exclusive lockout if you change them to let you know you're turning something else off. If you find it happening again, just do as David says and go into Speaker Config and change "none" to a value...the 605 should remember the calibration level and Audyssey EQ for the SB speakers.

I used to do this intentionally when I first upgraded from 5.1 to 7.1. I would reconfigure my 805 to Bi-Amp so I could compare the in-walls being used for SB duty to the front L/R speakers. When done with a session, I just reenabled the SB xover and back to 7.1 it went.

Are you connected to your monitor only via HDMI? If so, when you did the hard reset (VCR + StandBy), you reset to factory default, which is HDMI Monitor = No. You'll need to turn HDMI Monitor = Yes to see the setup menu via HDMI...kind of a bummer, the 805's have a dedicated hard button on the front panel for HDMI Monitor On/Off, but it looks like you have to work through the Setup Menu via the 605's LED display to turn HDMI on/off.

If it's not the HDMI monitor, I'd do another hard reset. This time, after the 605 shuts down, remove it from wall power for a few minutes before powering it back up.

Yes thank you changing the HDMI = yes was the answer. I'm now using the mic and going through the set-up. I hope the surround backs stay and if not I guess to the service center it goes. However I hope by resetting the unit it buffered out any neg. memory in the system that my have been causing this to happen.
