I didn't really know under which category to post this, but this seemed like the most logical.

I have my speakers (5.1) hooked up to my Onkyo tx-sr605 (i included 606 because they're very similar). I also have my laptop that has a blu-ray player running power DVD 8 ultra (supports Dolby TrueHD and DTS master audio) hooked up to the receiver (via HDMI). The only problem is that i was testing this out on two BR discs this weekend and something weird happend. So i first tested out 300 (true HD), and i got the Dolby Double D sign and that was it. Then i tested out transformers (True HD), and on my receiver the DTS symbol lit up with Neo:6. So i guess my question is three part:

a. Typically when using a bluray player will the TrueHD light up on the receiver if it is outputting TrueHD audio?

b. Has anyone tried hooking up a computer/laptop with BR capabilities to their onkyo with positive results, and if so how?

c. Does anyone know what could possibly be wrong?

Thanks in advance...i know i'm asking a bit much, but i would really appreciate it.

Press the display button on your 605 remote several times. What I believe you are seeing is the Listening Mode. To see what is actually being sent to the receiver, you have to press display.

Are you sure your laptop hardware supports bitsreaming TrueHD/DTS-HD? I'm not current on HTPC, but I thought HDMI audio output was still relatively rare.

Did you select the TrueHD/DTS-HD track in the disc's setup menu? A lot of Blu-ray titles still default to DD/DTS tracks instead of the hi-res tracks.

Lastly, does PowerDVD output bitstreamd or decode to MPCM? If it decodes, you should see the PCM indicator light up.

Double check your default listening mode presets. Change them from "Last Valid" to whatever they should be. Ie. TrueHD, DTS-HD, MultiChannel PCM, DD, etc.

For the receiver to decode the Dolby True HD/DTS HD stream, the output device needs to output bitstream w/ secondary audio disabled. Or at least those are the settings I need to set up on my Blu-Ray player.
