Anything special about this player compared to the under $100 Panny, JVC or Sony?

    Okay, you got my attention.
Score of 95, how about the upper end models like Denon 2900 or NAD, how did they do?
    What is the average score?
Sorry, I don't have the article.

Also, a refurb at ecost for $94 is really tempting.

james, I don't know much about those models...I was looking to purchase a player under $175 and I tested most of them at home. So I returned all of them and I kept the Onkyo...If I were you I'd go for a new one for an extra few dollars...I got it for less than the asking price [IMG]

So I assume you got it for $119 shipped?
When I click check out, it was $127.
I emailed them about it if I can get it for a few dollars less. [IMG]

I'm a preferred customer of theirs, when they look up my name thay know I've been dealing with them since 1987..[IMG]

You could try the 1-800-221-8180 and speak to someone, maybe they'll knock off a couple of bucks..[IMG]

I guess $127 is their best price. I am not that desperate for a new DVD player right now so that extra $7 was the deal breaker :b .

It all depends who you get on the phone...try calling at different times, you might get someone who will help you out.

I guess the preferred customer status helps a lot or maybe since they asked me where I am located, San Francisco, it would be hard for them to swallow shipping cost.

Anthony is right because each sales rep is working on commission & J&R sets a price they can't go under, I've called & fought with a salesperson who would'nt budge on a price I wanted at J&R & then called right back & got another salesperson who was willing to deal. I've also found with most places even cars where sales personal are on commissions you usually can get better prices at the end of the month just before their Commission period ends because sometimes their are bonuses tied to who has the highest sales, a vacation package or other incentives so they might just sell you something at a rock bottom price & make no money on it themselves but the sale itself may put them over the top for other in house Bonuses.

Fry's sells this player for $99 when it's on sale. If you have a Fry's near you watch the ads.

Any reviews on this player at all? I have been searching web sites for a while and haven't been able to come up with anything. If anyone has a link to posts on any boards, please link them!!! Based on a 90+ rating, I would definitely be in the market to buy a new player... Just don't want to do it without knowing for certain.

    Thanks,
    - John

I bought it based on the review in Hometheater magazine, I also made sure to get it from a store with a good return policy. I can honestly say nothing new under $150 will come close to it....the sharper image is selling a refurb Panny xp30 for $139 which is highly regarded.
