Are there any Onkyo owners outthere who have order the $49.95 cd-rom and installed the firmware yet? I'm interested in this receiver and I'm sitting on the fence until more than a few owners have been able to SUCESSFULLY install/configure/upgrade their 989 receivers...
    Thanks,
    -Alex

If you're waiting to buy a new one, don't bother with the upgrades as all new ones should allready be upgraded.

I wonder why this upgrade, the CD-ROM that is, is not available in Canada?

Apparently, in Canada, your dealer HAS to install it and will charge a fee for the privilege.

I have been told that the upgrade CD, which "should be available" by August 17, will only be given to Onkyo Dealers in Canada. They will be trained on the procedure, and you will not be able to do it yourself. The fee from Onkyo in Canada will be quite high (at least $200 - $250), and you will not be given a CD of your own.

Upgraded with the CD-ROM a few weeks ago and everything went smoothly. I had to haul my receiver to the computer room but this gave me an excuse to clean up the back of my system. Enjoying DTS-ES and PLII.

I just got my upgrade, but I gave them the wrong serial number and the password does not work. Arggggggg!!
I did notice there is an option for a free upgrade instead of the paid one. Any idea what that is??

Tech Support send me a new password this Sat. Great support. [IMG] Even on weekends.
And it looks like the free upgrade just gives you DPII, I just uploaded it with the paid upgrade and now I have DTS-ES and Neo Cool........
