actually, I'm more impressed with the weight of the 797! The 898 only weighs about a pound more than the 797.
Also, it looks like the weight of the 797 increased slightly over the 787. That's better than the weight loss with the 595 and 696 over the 575 and 676!

Does anybody know where to get the Silver 797 that is displayed at onkyo.net, the UK site. I prefer the silver color. It is fully compatible with all US components right?

You guys should download the current 2002 brochure. The 898 seems the star attraction with the new remote and audiophile features.
Reasonable amount of info in there.
I'll endeavour to press the local dist. to see if they have more info.
Also I hope that Australia gets the silver ones because it really does look nice.
Much better than gold.

thanks for tip Tony..... I checked out the 2001-2002 catalog at http://www.onkyo.net/pdf/catalog/onkyo_02_uk.pdf
Also, there is a separate "technical features and specifications" to download.... http://www.onkyo.net/pdf/featspec/on...spec_02_uk.pdf
Looking at the specification and feature comparison chart, I noticed that ONLY the TX-DS989 is IEEE1394 upgradeable.
This contradicts the feature list for the Onkyo 898 when you view the 898 with this link... http://www.onkyo.net/uk/cms/products/home/av_rec/0130-TX-DS898/indlist.htm
-which says the 898 is IEEE1394 upgradeable.
I just wrote to UK Onkyo to notify them of this inconsistency.
