Thanks a lot, Jeff. I truly do appreciate this from you.
I had seen the specs myself at Crutchfield last week, but when I returned to do some further research, they had somehow been all removed!!!???
If this is not available yet for public sale, do you happen to know when this is due to be released? Either way, this is my receiver-to-be, hands down, and I was going to make preparations to save up for it beginning this weekend. Any answer you would have would be, of course, more than welcomed by moi. Thanks again!!!! :)

>How do these units compare to the Denon 3802, since that seems to be the flag ship for comparison?
THX EX Surround 7.1
I reckon they'll be a lot cheaper than the 3802.
Also I would be wary of power issues re: 595/696.
Where is the $500 extra for the 898 going? The folding door???

Tony the 898 has what amounts to a rebadged pronto remote, and voila there's the $500.

>Voila!! ;-)
Heh. I didn't think the 50% hike would bring nothing.
Basically the 898 is a true THX 7.1 receiver with a pronto.
The 797 is a EX 6.1 receiver. You can upgrade to 7.1 by an external amp.
Personally I'd rather save the extra money.

Which do you recommend the Denon 3802 or the Onkyo? Seriously considering the 3802, but if I can get the same performance from the Onkyo, I could use the difference in $ for higher quality speakers.

Is anyone else wondering about upgrade ability? There's no list of a RS-232C port or IEEE-1394 port. I know those would be important to me if I was buying a new receiver. Anyone know if they are going to have both or either?

onkyo.net is the UK site. I am hoping that the US version is the same as the UK version. The UK version has both DTS-ES discrete and matrix. As for pictures, here's one of the remote for the 898.

Nice site.
I need the manuals for the 797 and 898 to make a truly informed division. The manuals will clear everything up.
I like the pure direct mode on the 898 that kills the display and video circuitry so that you get pure analog.
I think the 797 lacks this. I also think the 797 has a slightly cluttered face. The 898 looks cleaner.
They look like Integras with the silver face!

Both of these units seem like at least the equal to the Denon 3802, at a lesser price. Or am I missing something......

and you can count on getting more competitive pricing on these than you would ever with dennon. We all know onecall and jandr have often given us great deals on Onkyo if we can find an authorized dealer selling at less.
So who do we go to for the best deal? I need Oade Bros. website.
