I am having trouble making a decision between these two units. Price wise I can get them for sbout the same.
They both do component switching, butI have heard that the Denon may have issues with HD. Is this true???
Also, the Onkyo 696 does not have 6.1. I am using the Energy XL series speakers and I currently do not have a rear surround speaker. Is this really that important??
All opinions will be taken into consideration. Thanks

    Lon,
Did you also see the post that J&R is selling the 787 for $600? That throws another wrench into the mix. So for $600, you can get the 787 which has 100x6 and THX, or the 696 with has 5 channels and DPL-2. Or the Denon for $100 cheaper. hmm.............

I not sure if I should thank you for bringing that to my attention. But I would rather get the DPL-II.
    I found the 696 for $564 + shipping and the Denon 2802 for $504 + shipping

I would get the Denon, or I should say I did get the Denon [IMG]. You can always add a rear center later.
