I'm looking for a receiver to use as a processor (I've got amplifiers) that includes DPL2. Does the 696 offer the full complement of adjustments for DPL2 music, i.e. dimension, center width, and panorama?
Thanks

No.
I've got the 696, and while it does have the DPL2 Music and Movie modes, it doesn't provide adjustments for the modes.

Thanks for the reply. I thought that was the case. I am surprised, though, that Onkyo does not give you the full panoply of DPL2 adjustments. Not sure why some manufacturers (Denon, Kenwood) offer the adjustments and others (Marantz, Onkyo) do not...

The Onkyo 989 does have the adjustments for DPL2, so maybe the new 797 and 898 models will have the adjustments too.
P.S. Hey Tony! still have your PW-2200 sub? I've been enjoying mine now that I live in a noisier house (busy road in front of house) where I can't hear the transformer hum.

The PW2200 is long gone. As you know, the hum drove me bonkers! I am now the proud owner of dual HSU TN1220HO subs with a Samson S1000 amp. Loud, low and clean!

Personally, I'm glad my 595 doesn't have the adjustments... because it sounds pretty good with the Dolby default settings, and I know I'd just sit there fucking with it for hours. Heh...

Well, yeah, but personally I prefer to set dimension to 6 which gives you more of an ambient feel for classical music, which is my preference. I find the standard settings a bit flat in comparison. Additionally, the Panorama control can be useful for some recordings, enhancing the "wrap around" effect.
