Ok, so between you guys and a 10% off cupon I got form best Buy in the mail, I'm convinced. Going sometime this weekend to get my TiVo. I'll get the subscription, too. You guys talked me into it.
On last question, though...
Can I pay for the subscription month by month for a few months and then pay $200 for the lifetime sub, or is the lifetime sub only offered at the store at the time of purchase?

Jeff, you can get the lifetime subscription at any time on TiVo's website, or by calling their Customer Care center.
Congratulations! Are you getting the DirecTV Combo Box or the Stand Alone unit?

Just the standalone Sony TiVo. No DirecTV for me.

While you can get the lifetime sub at any time, they will not credit you for any previous monthly payments. So if you start with a month for $10 and then decide to get lifetime, it will set you back $210.
