I want to pick this title up, but I'm not sure which version to get.

Is the old canadian version a good one?

Or the new one just released the way to go?

What about extras, for some reason I can't find good details on them.

    Thanks for any input.

I have the new release and it's definitely the one to get!

The Canadian version is not framed correctly: it looked like it was around 1.66:1 rather than the correct 1.85:1 (this was readily apparent as the titles were cropped). The new release is 1.85:1 and the case states that it is anamorphic (though I don't have a widescreen tv to confirm that). There was also a serious sound problem on the featurette included on the Canadian DVD - there was none! The new release has several featurettes (a behind-the-scenes doc plus a Tattoo photo gallery). Best of all is that the Criterion LD commentary track with director Lee Tamahori is included. It's a good listen.

Edit: you're right - I checked Amazon and DVDPlanet and neither of them lists any extras for this release. [IMG]

Thanks Steve, time to import the US version then (and it's 3$ less than the Canadian version on Amazon.ca [IMG]!
