There are certain events that I classify as "Once in a Lifetime" events. These are events where it's a real good excuse for a party - even if you don't care for the event

Some that I have checked off
Indy 500
Times Square New Years Eve
Eiffel Tower 100th annvy
Golden Gate Bridge 50th annvy and Bridge Walk
Chicago Blues Fest
Concert in Hyde Park London
Exotic Erotic Ball San Francisco
Notre Dame Football Game
Highlands Games in Scotland

Some still on my list
New Orleans Mardi Gras
Kentucky Derby
Carnaval in Rio
Monte Carlo Grand Prix

Anyone have any others?

Seeing an Elton John concert, live, a mile from my house, last November. Definitely once in a lifetime.

And the Indy 500 is hardly that if you live in Indianapolis. I am not a race (HORSE OR CAR) fan or a ND alumni...that's the point
Generally these events are expensive or hard to get in. Throw in huge crowds, travel and all the other things like lack of toilets and so on.
Would I go to most of the things on the list again - no. It's hard enough in the first place.
I happened to be about 6 hours away from the Highland games and it was great fun. Would I drive 6 hours again - no.
I went to the exotic erotic right when it was just getting to big and expensive. I guess all the things HBO show was going on but all I remember was the pathetic lonely naked guy getting laughed at by girls.
you could say

I wanna date a Playboy playmate.
I guess winning a hundred million dollars would amount to the same thing.

Done:

• Michigan vs Ohio State football (actually, this was a twice in a lifetime event, as I attended games in Columbus and Ann Arbour)

• marshalling in Harlem at the Five Boroughs Bike Ride in NYC, the largest participatory ride in the US

• third row on the floor at TWO U2 concerts during their PopMart tour

• driving a Porsche 911 on a closed race circuit (unless, of course, I win the lotto, when I expect to be driving a Porsche all the time!)

Still to do:

• Monaco Grand Prix (or any F1 race, for that matter)

• Tour de France (heck, just visiting France!)

• seeing a moose

• winning the lottery to be able to afford the previous three!

Mario, it's dirt cheap for Americans to come up to Canada and see a moose! Our dollar is like your dime!
Not that we have moose walking around all over the place, but head up to Banff and you won't have much trouble finding one.
See you soon, eh?!

I second the Kentucky Derby, I'm from Louisville and I've been to 5 in my short 24 years on this earth. Everyone must go once!

Oh yeah, Auburn vs. Alabama in football is the most heated rivalry of all time.
