Ive never seen the Samurai Trilogy, so I'm not sure about having the 3 movies nominated as a whole. I'd prefer individual nominations, but if someone can make a case, I'll leave it as is.

The trilogy is three movies based on a single, epic novel: []}Musashi Miyamoto[/i], the name of the samurai in question, an historical personage. It is about his journey from callow youth filled with ambition to a warrior who has fulfilled that ambition and more, realizing in the end that it is all ephemeral.

Since the three films are a whole and based on one book and one man’s life, this might be an exception to your desire to consider only single films.

Your tourney though.

Good enough Lew, consider it nominated.

I'm going to throw out a few suggestions (I'm surprised these haven't been mentioned already):

The Hitcher
Joy Ride
Mad Max
Two-Lane Blacktop
The Wraith
Near Dark

Since Erik posted Mad Max and Near Dark only as suggestions and not nominations, are they then considered nominations by Jim K that require seconds?

I think 64 is stretching it. 32 + 8 or 16 wild cards should be plenty.

Nominate:
Deconstructing Harry
This is Spinal Tap (not sure if this qualifies... it happens "on the road" in the sense that Tap is on tour and the movie goes from location to location... but very little of the movie occurs in vehicles that are literally on the road)

Third:
Rain Man

Second:
National Lampoon's Vacation

I feel like I'm overlooking something really good.

Either going to 64 or having 16 Wild Cards seems like a very good plan to me.

Erik, Please note: You have National Lampoon's Vacation in both nom and master list.

Nominate:

Cannonball Run II
Rat Race
The Muppet Movie
Boys on the Side

Second:

The Cannonball Run
Mad Max

Third:

It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World

Chuck, yeah This is Spinal Tap would be stretching it a bit, so I'm going to say no to that and Almost Famous. I'm mainly looking for films where you see a lot of the action taking place on the road. I haven't seen all the movies in the tourney, so if there's any objection to any on the lists, I'm all ears.

I feel like I'm overlooking something really good.
Indeed you are ;) , how about:

The Hitcher
Badlands
Joy Ride
Two-Lane Blacktop
Road Games

Second:
The Muppet Movie

Erik, I haven't seen any of those, but wait until Justin_S comes around. I'm certain The Hitcher is a top 5 something or other for him ("one of my all-time top 5 Rutger Hauer movies starting with H!").
