Happiest day of my life...hmmm...don't really have one that stands out, but here are several. #2 can probably be considered the happiest day of my life.

1. High School graduation.

2. Looking at the scale and seeing that I had lost 30 lbs late last year. That was a heck of an achievement. Now I can't wait for the day that my scale reads that 60 lbs. have been lost!

3. Meeting Cleavant Derricks (Tony award-winning Broadway actor; best known for his character "Rembrandt 'Crying Man' Brown" on Sliders). I had worked on his web site for about a year. We ended up being friends through that and I finally got to meet him in person in May of last year. A great day that went by way too fast (and got interrupted by a crappy meeting @ work...argh).

4. Getting my Sony WEGA KV-32FV27.

5. Winning various awards at work (including Team Member of The Month, and awards for outstanding customer service; among other achievements).

Best days:

Star Wars: TPM opening night showing.

LOTR opening day showing.

First time I saw Superman when I was about 1. After that, my mom made me a cape and I ran around the house with my arms in front of me acting like I could fly.

My cousin and his kids came in about 2 months ago for Thanksgiving and they wanted to watch a movie, I asked if they'd ever seen Superman, they had not seen it. Granted these kids are only about 2 and 3, but not seen Superman, blasphemy! So, I popped it in and put on the first Helicopter rescue and throughout the entire sequence and the forthcoming rescues, the kids were clapping and their jaws were on the floor, literally, I mean they were just yelling and saying, "Go Superman!" I broke out crying. To what this film meant to me when I was a kid and now seeing them love it as much as I did, just brought me to tears. Great day that was.

One day back in about 96 my and my father went out for lunch and afterwards we went to go see The Rock. Nothing really extraoridinary about that day, but theres just something about it that stands out in my mind.

My basketball team that my father coached won the championship. Great day.

My father dying. Why would I say this you ask. Well, because if theres one thing he taught me, it was not to dwell, and this was one of those times. And it taught me that Im not indestructible, and that I should just

say 'fuck you, this is me' to the entire world. I'd be a much different person if he was still alive.

Damn, Cees beat me to it!
I do not look upon any day as my best day. I've had a lot of wonderful days, and hope to have many more. But having a 'best day' in the past precludes the chance of having an ever better one in the future. I prefer to leave my options open.
But, some wonderful days:
Successfully defending my thesis in grad school and the party afterwards.
Any day spent hunting.
Seeing something I've worked on get launched.
Beautiful lazy days spent doing nothing in particular.

The day my first child was born. The way she looked up at me like she recognized me was sooooooo good.

What a great topic, but most posters are like Stereophile(putting everything in Class A). There can be only one best day.

Mine is when my first son was born. We were worried because a week or two before he was born, my wife thought he had stopped moving and we were all really worried. But he was fine. When he was born, I thought about my grandfather who became the first great grandfather in our family ever. My father's grandfather died when my father was 2 or 3.

I must respond to those examples:
1) Grad school--not at all surprised by that one; pretty much what I expected from such a champion of critical thinking.
2) Hunting? I believe I've discovered the first topic about which Ms. K and I could disagree (and vehemently so at that).
3) Please tell us about this. Which mission, and what was the experiment? (Was it as part of an STS launch?) Very intriguing.
4) We can all agree with this.
:)

It's funny how "worst days" stand out so clearly from the rest of your lives, but "best days" tend to blend in and merge. Maybe it's because we have so many "best days" and so few "worst days" that they stand out more. I'd like to think so, anyway.
Some of my best days:
1. The day I got a job I absolutely love and I realized that all the years and money I spent in college had *finally* paid off.
2. The day I got off the plane in a different country (UK). First time I'd ever been out of my state (well, the Northwest, anyway). That was three years ago.
3. The day my mother gave me her car as a graduation present. It was the first vehicle I ever owned. I totalled it two years later (as only a teenager could. :) ) I still miss my Pontiac T1000. I still have the emblem off the front grill around here someplace...

Best day? Hmm...

I think it was the day I conquered Everest.... wait.. that wasn't me.

Perhaps it's the day I discovered a cure for polio... oh.. um.. not me either.

I think it was the day Carrie Smith asked me to climb through her bedroom window while her parents were asleep. Well, actually that was at night.

*all events in this story are true, only the names have been changed to protect the innocent.

I try to find something good in every day that I'm alive, and I usually do, but if I had to pick some really good ones I'd have to pick the birth of my niece and nephew. I don't have any children (yet), so going to my sister's and seeing my nephew, who is now 6, and my niece who's only been here 3 months is something special to me ...

But I'm assuming that my best day, aside from that eventual birth of my first child, is going to be November 30th, 2003, when on a beach somewhere in Jamaica, I'm going to marry my fiance'. After that, I'm guessing my first lazy fall afternoon swinging in my hamock with my then wife, in the yard of my very first house, as my son and our very first dog run around playing. Now THAT's a good day ...

Hate to be un-original, but my son being born on 11/24/01 was the best day for me thus far. I'm still amazed at the sight of him.

This may sound corny but the best day of my life was the day I got married. My wife was absolutely beautiful, and still is. I was tall, young, in good shape, and I have to admit, I was lookin' good that day. I just felt so special. We got married in Las Vegas and as we walked through the casinos, everyone turned around to look. It was like we were some kinda movie stars or something. I have never felt so special before or since, at least in the public eye.

Best days:

Kids being born (of course)

The Honeymoon (wedding required, but not particularly fun, more stressful than anything else)

The first day on a new boat

The calls saying "you got the job"

And my all time favorite, quiting my last job, walking out on a solid career in my mid-30's, top of the ladder, just to spend time with my kids. Never regretted it since.
