Hi there! Hope someone might be able to shed some light on my situation... I have an older Pioneer DVD surround sound system that I would like to temporarily use with my new Panasonic plasma TV until I get around to buying a newer sound system. DVD Sound System - Pioneer XV-DV77 Plasma TV - Panasonic TC-P60UT50 I wanted to use the surround sound for general TV watching, running my computer through my TV, and with my movies on itunes (apple TV), etc. However, I can't seem to get the sound to work for anything except the DVD player that is connected through the system. There is no HDMI cable connection option on the Pioneer system, only Optical Coaxial In, Digital Audio Out, or Component (from what I can see). http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/vgn/images/portal/cit_11221/310308391HTZ77DVOperatingInstructions.pdf (instruction manual). I tried component cables for the audio and digital audio between the two. However, I noticed that both theTV and Pioneer are digital audio 'Out', no 'In'. So the only option I have NOT tried yet, is digital audio out from the TV to a coaxial converter and then the Coaxial In on the Pioneer system. As you can see, I'm pretty confused. I have tried many options and nothing has worked thus far  I would greatly appreciated any insight here - if this is possible and how. Thanks! Mark

Ok so here is how I would wire it up. Computer to tv via HDMI (Video only) Computer audio to sound system (Video 1) via 3.5mm jack on computer using 3.5mm to Stereo RCA Y Cable, and Optical Out from TV to Optical in on sound system. according to this:http://www.dientuvietnam.net/forums/nguon-115/can-xin-cach-dau-noi-nguon-cho-dau-dvd-pioneer-xv-dv77-18158/ it does have an optical in. That's about the only way to do it and have it work right. I don't think your tv will pass the digital audio from the computer to the sound system. That's why you should use the Y cable and run the audio analog. Even running the PC sound analog you should still be able to get pro-logic surround. Hope this is helpful.

Hi Gartronics! Thanks for the reply and info! I'm not sure why, but my unit is slightly different from the unit you sent the picture for.

That is a shot of the back of my unit. So instead of an optical in, I have the coaxial in. Does this mean I would need the coaxial converter to convert the optical to coaxial to connect to this unit? Your other suggestion with the RCA Y cable seems fairly straight forward, I will give it a shot tonight. Any thoughts though on the above situation though? Thanks again! p.s. if I wanted this sound system to work with an Apple TV box (eliminating the computer all together), how should I wire it? I'm looking to pick one up and would use less computer hookup in that situation.

Hi Mark, I was curious, Does your PC have a HDMI out? Also I researched your pioneer model and noticed it should have an optical input in the back next to the optical output. Not sure why your system doesnt have an optical input which would solve half of your problem. However you can use the y cable for PC OUT to COAX with This CONVERTOR http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815150244 which should work.

Yes, laptop actually. It has an HDMI plug in, which is what I'm using right now to run the laptop on computer, with sound coming through TV. I'm not sure why, but mine has the Coaxial in instead of the Optical in. They must have changed it at some point. All these cords and converter to get the sound running on an older setup... I feel like I'd almost rather just buy a new sound system :P Don't have the slightest clue on what to look at though. I will take a look at that converter to see if there is one available locally to test it and see if it works (can always return it and buy online once I know it will work). Thanks again!

OK I got it, I've done this type of setup before. This is what you do... (1) Connect optical cable OUT from your TV to this convertor http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10423&cs_id=1042302&p_id=2948&seq=1&format=1#largeimage (2) Then connect COAX OUT from convertor to COAX IN to your AV receiver. That's it !

This is the recommended cable for the COAX CONNECTION http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10236&cs_id=1023603&p_id=2681&seq=1&format=1#largeimage

Hi,
I have lost the main dvd unit of my sound system unit and is left with the 5 speakers, a powered subwoofer, the remote and a little display.

The powered sub has no audio input and also has no way to control sound or anything else. The image is the back of the sub and the display and I am wondering what sort of converter could I use to actually use this system. Thanks in advance
