I have an old (probably 15 yrs. or so) pair of AR speakers- they are three-sided, powered, about 6-8" tall, pretty heavy due to the power source. Don't know a lot about these- anyone know where I can find out more about them, and if they are worth using in any way in a HT setup? Sorry for my ignorance, thanks for your help.

Are they active? (Do they have power cords running out of them?)

You can usually look for the model numbers on the back - look for them and post them here.

Generally, if they sound good with music (COMPARE them to other speakers first!), they'll sound good with HT.

My father has a pair of ARs that are somewhere around 35+ years old. They still work! We don't push them too hard, but they have original parts in them still.

Sorry I can't help you with your quest for info, but thought you'd appreciate this little tidbit.

They do have power cords- I cannot find a model # on them anywhere. They also have a green light on the front to indicate power on as well as a small volume and tone control on the front.

Thanks Tom, I have checked this page, but found nothing. They have an AR forum, and I posted same question on it. Maybe I'll come up w/ something there.

Sounds to me like a pair of the Teledyne Acoustic Research

    "Powered Partners".

What are the cabinents made out of? Plastic or wood?

you said they are 6 to 8" tall.. what are the other dimensions?

Just found a picture of the powered partners AV 570 by Advent. They look just like these, but have the AR logo on them. Thanks for the info. (Still don't know if they're any good.)

    Randy,

I think they are "decent" for what they are.. They should

sound better than your average small multimedia speakers by

a good margin. Any time I see these for sell on Ebay someone

always snatches them up. I have seen them bring up to about

$200.00 for a clean working pair.
