If you do a search on Ebay for movies that, as far as I know, are not out on DVD yet, you'll get tons of hits. I stumbled upon a TON of auctions for the Indiana Jones trilogy. Some even claimed the DVD's were in DTS, which I find hard to believe. Are these just laserdisc rips, or is it the real deal from outside the U.S.?

    Thanks,

    Scott

They are definitively bootlegs, no legal releases of Indiana Jones exist on DVD
As for their source, they don't even have to be laserdisc. And even if they are I don't think you can automatically expect laserdisc quality.
    Thank God for Laserdisc [IMG]

Those are fakes. The real Indiana Jones movies might come to DVD in 2003.

    Adam,

That was the other thing I was wondering about. I did a search for IJ and came up with about two hundred pages of threads. I wasn't sure if there was even any planning for releasing it on DVD. Since Spielberg caved and brought us BTTF, I wasn't sure what the status was for IJ. Does anybody else have any info on a confirmed (of speculative) release date?

Thanks guys. I was just looking at this Trilogy and was gonna ask. Did a search and found this real recent stuff. Next XMAS is still just a rumor? Hmm ... I may have to rethink waiting, especially when it could slip again.

Who's our contact again? Is Peter Staddon at Paramount? If so, what's the latest he's got to say on the Indy Trilogy?

Martin Blythe is the Paramount rep, and you won't find him saying much on the subject, since this will be another big promotion for the studio, which he isn't going to deflate by announcing things this early, at least not officially.

It's more than a rumor, less than fact

Please don't support organized crime by buying bootlegs, nor the scum that peddle them

A quibble, but could we say that "Spielberg saw the light" rather than "Spielberg caved"? It's behavior we want to encourage, after all. [IMG]

While we're putting things to rest:

Who owns the DVD rights to the Indy films, George Lucas or Steven Spielberg? I'm assuming it's Lucas, since he's the producer.

Oscar, thanks for clarifying the reps and sorry about the mix-up. I sure wish Paramount would give us a definitive answer on a street date ... Martin?

I don't think it's Martin's place to even say, this is a definite partnership with Lucas so Paramount won't be leaking anything in such a direct manner. At this point you probably have a better chance getting info from a mole at the Ranch. [IMG]
As for bootlegs, save yourself the pain. I got a look at the SW bootlegs awhile back (no, I didn't waste my money on them) and the MPEGing is pretty crappy. You are talking about taking LDs limited resolution and then doing half-assed compression on that. And you might not even get that, heck who knows who you are giving your payment info to when you buy one of those off of Ebay.
You are probably much better off with a W/S VHS copy, IMO. At least for the first 10 plays or so. [IMG]
Of course, I bought the legit LDs of Indy and SW years ago, so it doesn't bother me anyway.

It's about time they busted them but good. Good for the MPAA. I just hope they bust the HK and anime titles as well
