Alcohol in my Maxell Video Head Cleaner or do I need something specially formulated for electronics?
Someone may have an exact answer but I think 90% Iso-proply alcohol would be perfect. The only possible problem may be using too much which could allow the alcohol to enter or drip down into a mechenism which relys on some type of lubrication. The alcohol could in this case remove the lube and of course cause a failure. Instead of using a cassette type head cleaner, use Q-tips dipped in the alcohol and reach through the cassette door to clean, or better yet remove the top of the case which would allow for a superior head cleaning and pinch roller job.
Just make sure you don't get alcohol on the rollers or capstans. It dries out the rubber.
Thanks. I'll be careful!
I would advise against Q-tips as cotton strands can become embedded in the video head causing more problems. If you can find cleaning devices with chamois or foam rubber coverings, use them instead of Q-tips.
Is there a kit available that includes the fluid and swabs? I am rediscovering my cassettes and NAD 6155 3-header. Sorry for kicking up an old topic.
