I've got a question for you. One of my favorite mixed drinks is Diet Squirt and tequila on the rocks. I never find Diet Squirt in bar so this is an at home libation only. I got to thinking, this would taste great as a slushy, kinda like a frozen margarita. So what would happen if I put ice, tequila, and the Diet Squirt, which is carbonated into a blender and turned it on? Would it blend ok or would it explode all over the kitchen? I guess an option would be to blend only the ice and tequila and then manually stir in the squirt.

Thats what my wife said. It just seems counter intuitive to me, but I'll find out this weekend.

Here's an article that better explains it: http://answers.yourdictionary.com/science/why-does-shaken-soda-explode.html And a video: http://www.stevespanglerscience.com/experiment/soda-can-shake-up-experiment#video

Any mixed drink that requires a carbonated beverage should have said carbonated beverage added last. Unless of course, the carbonation isn't important to the drink. It won't explode by any means, it will just be flat. Stir it in after blending.

Another variation, is to mix the alcohol and the diet squirt and freeze. Depending on the mix of alcohol, you can get a nice slushy consistency. We have a recipe that calls for Squirt, concentrated OJ, gin, peach brandy and maraschino cherry juice. Mixed, then frozen it freezes nicely with the alochol preventing a complete freeze.

This reminds me: you should do the diet coke and mentos experiment: http://www.navesink.net/2008/06/diet-coke-and-mentos-fun.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soda_and_candy_eruption
