With the cheaply designed remote and lack of coaxial output, I'm hoping LESS THAN $400 for Panasonic's sake. If it is, I'll buy. Already have a RP-91.

Yeah I wonder. Maybe it doesn't have the so-called "true" scaling of the RP91, but does have a more rudimentary zoom.

Or perhaps it truly has both, which would be nice. I won't be updating since I already have the RP91, but I do notice the combing on some titles with the RP91.

It's good to see the DVD-RAM support as well.

If this player has a scaling feature similar in quality to the RP-91, this will be my next DVD player!

Does anyone know if the Panny 82 will indeed have a scaling feature?

Wesley, according to Link Removed the RP82 will have a coaxial output. With a retail price of $280 hopefully it will street around $230. The RP62 has a retail of $230 but everyone is selling them at $180.

I might as well chime in with my 2 cents. I was at the local store yesterday (up here in Canada) and the nice salesman called his panasonic rep for me, anyway the 82 will be shipped out the middle of July and the first shipment of players is already sold out. The second shipment will be shipped out the end of July. He also asked about the bass management on the unit and the sales guy said it only applied to movies. Personally I take that with a grain of salt becaue the sales rep did not sound like he knew everything about the 82, but it sounds like the mangement feature will be the same as the 91. Anyway I hope this info helps.

That's good news Andrew. Did you happen to find out what the price is going to be up here?

I'm still interested to know if this will have the same non anamorphic scaling feature as the RP91.

I checked the price of RP62 at a local store a week ago, it's $339 Canadian (tax included). They didn't have the price for RP82 yet, I expect it would cost barely under $400 with tax included.

About the scaling, I just found the RP56, RP82 and RP91 all have "4:3 Shrink Function w/ Letterbox Zoom & Shift" in their specs. Obviously the scaling in RP56 and RP91 are quite different. I won't expect too much for the RP82. Anyway that's the one I'm waiting for.

man, can't wait. I've got a Toshiba SD5700 that I would gladly trade in for it. The owner let me use it till the RP82 came in, and it's roughly the same $$, I think.

andrew B: when u said the first shipment of players is sold out, does that mean that a regular consumer will not be able to get one at the retail level or that stores have bought all the available units out? In Canada, does this mean that we won't be able to get one until August or???
