TWINKIES maker, Interstate Bakeries, is filing for Chapter 11!
Hostess, Twinkies, Ding Dongs, Wonder Bread.
Those are some big brand names that they have. I'm sure that someone would buy the company.
The company will remain in business. They are re-organizing. Happens all the time to large, older ones. Once the low-carb fad subsides... and there are indications that it is, then good, wholesome, carb-rich foods will make a comeback.
As a weekly wonder bread and twinkee buyer, this makes me sad
Guess the fried twinkie craze didnt help out...
If they came out with an edible low-carb snack cake of some sort, I would think that that would help them quite a bit.
Even Krispy Kreme announced a "low-carb" doughnut (haven't seen it yet) in the midst of their current downfall. Wheat contains carbs, no way out of it. If it wasn't for Splenda (brand) sweetner a lot of "low carb" ice creams, cake mixes and other sweet foods wouldn't be available. But sales of all this stuff has fallen dramatically this summer and wouldn't have saved the company from filing bankruptsy re-organization. No matter, Twinkies will survive - fried, plain or chocolate covered. I do remember they had a low-fat version several years ago, but it didn't sell well. Back to the drawing boards!
"Twinkies. Sort of a WASP soul-food"
