Man...it was like a warzone out there. This guy apparently took out a lightpost, and his wheel was torn off. He crashed into a couple cars in the neighborhood before driving into the driveway, hitting all four of our cars. One was a classic 71 Karman Ghia...which cannot be repaired.

There's blood all over the driveway, and apparently the driver was a neighbor a couple doors down. We dont know if he survived yet.

Man oh man. Not only that, he took out three other cars on the way to our driveway...and heres the unbelievable part: my friends and I were playing Halo 2, and the HT sound was up pretty loud. We didnt even hear the wreck.

Insurance will likely cover everything, but Im just damn upset about the Karman Ghia...that baby was with me through high school, and ran like a dream. Sigh...

Bastard drunk drivers.

Wow, that really sucks. I hope you have comprehensive insurance coverage because if he hit that many cars I'd say there's a decent chance that his liability insurance is going to be maxed out.

Well, they really didnt ask, which is good because I pretty much couldnt explain how I didnt hear all that. How on EARTH could I not hear that accident? Strange.

I also found out my friend is not a good photographer. :D

Sucks. At least it seems he/she was the only one hurt!

Question about your Ghia. Did you have coverage on it?

The actual impact of two cars isn't really that loud when you think about it... it's usually the skidding of the tires before the impact that cause people to listen for the crash... and it doesn't sound like this guy was hitting the brakes.

Bummer... sorry to hear about the Karmann Ghia. It's funny, I was just shopping online yesterday for one as a mid-life-crisis mobile. :)

That depends on the severity of the wreck, back when I lived in the city there was a wreck between a 1976/77 Van and an 80's Firebird at the intersection just outside that shook the entire house and knocked pictures off the wall. The sound was (seemingly anyway) louder than most thunder I have heard, the Van wound up on top of the Firechicken killing that driver and breaking the neck of the Van driver (she wasn't dead when they took her away) and actually tearing up a good chunk of pavement underneath it all, I'll never forget that sound....crunching metal, breaking glass, tires exploding....wow.

Sorry about the cars David but I'm just glad no one else was hurt and that guy didn't come crashing through your house.

Me too Dave, but I've been shopping for a Mini. I told my wife for my 40th I want one, a convertable.

David, First off I gotta say that sucks :frowning:

and as far as not hearing the crash, 5 years ago, I was at my ex's house and we were talking in the kitchen with her dad. There was no tv on, no other noise in the house. It was a nice night out and things were extremely quiet around the neighborhood...A drunk driver slammed into my car (parked on the street) and pushed it under my ex's, brothers truck.

$22,000 worth of damage and neither one of the 3 of us heard a damn thing! Thank god my ex's step mom heard something (she was in the basement) and came running outside.

Sorry to hear about all this. I live on a busy corner and have accidents outside my door all the time - usually rear endings and people not giving right of way on a turn. I've always had an underlying fear a car's gonna come barreling into my yard/house...

I kind of like the photos - not so great for documentation purposes but pretty good to illustrate the chaos of the moment. Paul Greengrass (director of Bourne Supremacy) would be proud :)

We actually put coverage on the Ghia two days earlier. Man, that was a close one.

Well, good news: the guy has tons of charges on him, AND he was driving a company vehicle...so we can go after the pharmacy company instead of him. It just depends how much money we can get from his insurance for the Ghia.

Ill take more pics and post em tomorrow. :)

Yeah. That is actually what I was getting at about the Ghia. Did you have it appraised or at least some pictures and recent part list for insurance? I am curious because I have always worried about by 71 Beetle Convertible. Please let me know how that works out.

We're still trying to figure everything out with the insurance. Someone actually came by to see if we were selling the blue Honda Civic...how random.

Yes, but David, who won the Halo 2 round? ;)

I'm so kidding, that really is aweful to hear, I hope you take this guy and his company to the cleaners. :emoji_thumbsup:
