I think it's because Fox has been pleasantly surprised by the early positive buzz, plus if you'd read my interview you'd know that Fox is now putting together new trailers and TV spots.
It's not that kind of delay that comes when the studio smells a bomb. I'm confident of that.
Me, too. I've always defended Elisha as a decent actress stuck with bad writing on 24, so it will be interesting to see what she does here. Plus she's just so damn hot!!! Hopefully, it won't be another sleazoid American Pie clone.
A few months ago, like early December, we got a standee of Elisha Cuthbert for this movie (the same as the poster, I think). I knew, then and there, that I would own it. And I do. I now possess a 6-7' tall Elisha Cuthbert standee.
BTW, we had a sneak preview for this last weekend and one of the guys at the theater saw part of it and didn't like it. He said it was mostly about the guy in the movie, not Elisha. Oh well, she's still smoking hot.
I really loved this movie. It's going to be a long wait until April to see it again. Our sneak preview had a small crowd too, but hopefully the buzz gets around. This truly was a good film too, not just seem T and A thing. And did I forget to mention how beautiful Elisha is?
Yeah I was just going to post that information here but you beat me to it.
As for a record of seeing sneak previews/advance screenings of a film. I saw "Love Actually" twice and a couple others. I did however have more opportunities that I passed up due to other commitments.
I'll be seeing Girl Next Door again as well. I was supposed to go this evening but my tickets fell through at the last minute. No biggie. I'll pay to see it something I don't often do nowadays.
Saw the sneak. Quite funny, and not just in a "teen comedy" way. Elisha (and perhaps her body double?) is not just really hot, but also appealing. Go see it.
After wisely -- and thankfully -- going for an R rating, they didn't take it very far. Were they trying to avoid NC-17, or just trying to keep it date/female-friendly? This seemed to be a concern in the survey I took, which had a checkbox for the movie being too crude, but no checkbox for not crude enough In particular, I happened to see the unrated trailer, and in it, when they get a lapdance, the dancers are topless, but in the movie they are wearing bikinis. And when they go to the porn convention I don't recall any nudity, which doesn't seem right. At least there, it matches up with how they end up seeing her, so if they had a lot of nudity, she might have seemed out of place. But still. As the credits rolled, a guy sitting in the row behind me summed it up: he was expecting more porn!
The movie was really strong and consistent in the first half, and the ending was good, but it wavered and lost its way at about the two-thirds mark. The reaction to his speech was probably the low point.
Finally, I'm not sure if it's supposed to be an homage to Sixteen Candles, but what's with the Asian stereotypes? Now granted the guy they need to bring over is a plot device, and has to come from some impoverished place, and the reaction of a few of the students, who would have ridiculed any gawky foreigner, might be accurate. But they also throw in not differentiating between Cambodia and China, that "they're good with numbers" or whatever, and even the "sweet" bank teller throwing in the mild "riceboy" epithet when she's under pressure. Is that supposed to be some commentary on hidden racism, or just a lame joke? There's also the original porn video, which has the martial arts theme, and the only payoff is one bad porn pun. But with that, you've got the guy acting in that goofy faux-Asian manner. There have to be other porn stereotypes to ridicule. (Also no checkbox for that on the survey.)
But on a lighter note: was that all Elisha in the window?
Ken, in comments to your unrated trailer to actual film comments:
I could see where the MPAA could give an NC-17 to naked lapdancing, especially with boobs being rubbed in some guy's face. While I don't find it to be NC-17 rated material, I'm sure the MPAA do... cause they're prudes like that. I don't recall any nudity during the porn convention either in the film or during that unrated trailer (all the nudity in that unrated trailer came from the strip club scene), and it would make total sense, as there is usually no nudity during porn conventions.
The direcor mentioned that when the DVD comes out, it should be an unrated with quite a few bonus materials. But who knows, if the film tanks, FOX might just put it on DVD quickly with few extras (a.k.a. Club Dread).
Also, according to the other two spoiler quotes: People aren't smart, so just because someone looks Asian, they assume they're Asian. Sad, but true. I go to a high school on a regular basis, and it's sad to see how many people are closet-minded biggots. The high schoolers who ridicule him is spot-on. It's sad, but a lot of the film's stereotypes on teenagers is almost spot-on.
And I'm sure there are other porn stereotypes to goof on, but you have to remember, all acting in porn films is always bad. For the porn star to be talking in a goofy Asian accent makes it funnier as you could actually find that in a real porn film.
I have no idea if that was Elisha in the window, but who knows.
I saw the sneak preview last night (wow, saw two showings of the movie before it came out) and the theater seemed to enjoy it. Too bad there were maybe only ten other people in the theater. :frowning:
Come on, just come right forth and tell us where the Elisha nude scenes are . How many?
From what I gathered from context clues so far , there's a scene of her in the window but we don't know if it's a double or not. Be clear, descriptive... don't you guys know how to write?
